The Consistency in all these deals
The Consistency in all these deals
Is that we are the bitch. I am dumbfounded that we didn't see a few years back that we needed another superstar next to Love to make him want to stay. Instead we pretended that we were the next OKC, giving overpaid contracts to stiffs and putting ourself in mediocrity for the foreseeable future. Where was our plan to sign Lebron or Carmello and then if we wiffed on those guys looking to other ? If these guys are about winning they would have come here with the opportunity to win. Kahn made mistakes but Flip held to Kahn's plan. Who is our cap expert making room for us to get those superstars? Instead Pek gets 12 mil and Martin 8, One legged Budinger gets more than 1.5? Is anyone else fucking angry that we learned nothing from losing KG? I can't believe I am saying it but at least McHale gave it a real shot by getting Spree and Sam. We rolled over even quicker in this situation. The GS deal may be as fair as it gets at this point and even GS are balking because they want to make sure we stay in our role as the bitch of the NBA. I could care less if we capitalize now on a deal for Love. Lets improve our roster now, not take a deal that will pay off in the long run. I have found in parenting that one of the best ways to deal with a whiny child is to not give into their whining. I recommend treating Love the same way. At the very least we won't look like the bitch if we are in the playoffs. Love will look like a bitch for walking out on an improved playoff team or for packing it in on the floor. I care more about the team's image at this point. If we roll over again, we will only ever be a minor league team to prep stars for the real NBA.

I hate that I agree with most of this. Especially:

Re: The Consistency in all these deals
I recently heard some writer from Miami say that Lebron would never be signed and traded because Riley would never willingly help him leave the Heat.
Why are the wolves, bucks, cavs, etc. supposed to roll over for these players and willingly trade them to superteams? Because it's better than nothing? Sounds like a great way for a team to remain "better than nothing".
The have-nots of this league need to wise up and hardline with their star players. Leave if you must, but be prepared to stomach a shorter deal, less money, and options limited by available cap space.

The one thing I didn't agree with was "Kahn's plan", when it was Adelman's plan. Kahn was against building out the team until we were sure we had our stars. Adelman wanted to eliminate the athleticism and the development that goes along with those guys and replace them with guys like Bud.

By Kahn's plan I meant the gm role of overpaying for talent. I agree Adelman had a huge role in the type of talent that was brought in.

Couldn't agree more. Why meet the league's low expectation of us?
