NBA Wings still available

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

It looks like one of our bigs will be gone (most likely Payne) and we'll be looking to sign or acquire a wing.

The free agent list is narrowing but here's a look at who's left:

1. JR Smith
2. Mo Harkless (Restricted)
3. Dion Waiters (Restricted)
4. Alan Anderson
5. Dorrell Wright
6. Mario Chalmers
7. Steve Novak
8. Lance Stephenson
9. Quincy Acy
10. Randy Foye
11. Gerald Green
12. Budinger
13. Jimmer
14. Tayshaun Prince

Some other names

Alonzo Gee
PJ Hairston
Kevin Martin
Tony Wroten

I've always like Gee. He can play its just he isn't a shooter which is why he always gets signed for dirt cheap. For that reason he doesn't fit well here either.

It feels like a more vet wing makes sense than a developmental guy. If Stephenson wasn't crazy he would be a nice player to add because you can play him 1-3 if you have to. He needs the right landing spot though.

Wroten is another guy that needs to find the right spot. It seems the guy does have talent but he has had problems staying healthy and struggles hitting shots. He reminds me a little bit of How Billups stuggled early on and then found his way when he came to the Wolves. Billups was a much better shooter though and his journey is more the exception. Wroten is 23 it seems like some team (that's desparate for talent) should give the guy a shot unless there is some issue that I don't know about which is possible it maybe he just hasn't recovered from his knee injuries and maybe he never will completely recover.

Harkless is interesting but hed probably require a big contract to pry away from Portland. Anderson, Chalmers, Wright, Novak, Budinger or Gee on a one or two year deal for 2 or 3 Million a year makes sense. I think we need more of a small forward so I'd lean Wright, Novak or Budinger.

I would hope we aim higher than Novak. Yeah he can hit 3's but that all he can do and I don't think he is a SF anymore he is a PF so that doesn't help the wing situation.

I think there is a high probability any additional player acquisitions will come through trade. No more free agency.

Not sure how Blazers match a reasonable offer after signing Turner and matching Crabtree. I would make an offer to him.

We don't need to fill out 15 roster spots (wait, i think Hill was 15, so drop Payne). Let's just go with what we have. Thibs needs to shift back into coaching mode.

I agree to a point, but we basically have 12 playable players. 13 that can practice. I would like to see us add a SF/PF as a backup.

I like Harkless quite a bit but I wonder what type of contract you have to throw at him to get him. 10 million per? If I was the Blazers so would match that. It's not much more than what the mid level will be the next few years. He also has to want to come here and while it might be less crowded here than with the Blazers there isn't a clear path for big minutes here either. Because I think it's going to take a fairly big offer to get him I think I would look for the next Harkless/Aminu/Crowder type someone that will be cheap costs basically nothing to acquire and develops into a pretty worthwhile player.

There was talk about Charlotte wanting to move Lamb. Looking at their roster now it seems like keeping him at his salary makes sense for them.

PJ Hairston fits the profile to some extent. A big negative is he has had some issues off the court and though he has a nice shot they haven't gone in in his career so far.

Quincy Acy seems to be more of a PF maybe at this point but it seems like he could play as a SF some too still. Maybe not. At this point getting a guy that can play some SG seems like a better idea.

There has to be a few other random younger wing guys available that would be worth a flyer on. Does anyone have some other guys they like?

You can only suit up 12 per game anyway. 3 people have to be in suits if you have a full roster.
