I think its important to show said player that your serious about winning every year. You do that by not settling for average players, maybe being more of a player in free agency instead of doing essentially nothing to improve a 29 win team other than adding another rookie.
Being proactive now may help keep him down the road . How many average seasons can we afford to have before doubt creeps in his head like it did with KD.
I don't wanna lose Towns and wait another 10 years to be competitive like we did with KG.
I agree with this, but don't forget the flip side which is being a serious player in a foolish market potentially sabotaging future competitiveness. They were not going to contend this season, maybe next, but truly their window should be fully open the year after that, the same time the cap is expected to drop.
KAT isn't going to care how hard they tried this season or next if by the time he's truly free they're in such cap hell that there is no chance of winning.
