I know the line between some of the lower NBA players and guys that are out of the league can actually be small but the Bulls had 5 guys that are likely going to be on their roster and at least a couple will probably be rotation guys. So yeah you are absolutely right. In fact In still trying to figure out how the Wolves were even a play away from winning it.
I missed the game, but saw the box score. What's with Payne?? 20+ points and 16 boards? Wow. I see a max deal for him on the horizon. :)
Too bad the Wolves couldn't pull this off. But credit to Ryan, Tyus, Payne and the assorted collection of non-NBA players for getting to the finals and coming within a bucket of winning the whole thing. Saunders clearly has some coaching chops. Tyus is clearly a NBA-caliber PG with a bit of that "it" factor. As for Payne. No doubt he's talented and he gives a great effort. But can he succeed with a severely limited basketball IQ? Tonight gives us hope that he can. But I'm not putting any money on it.
I taped the game, so I'll watch it sometime this week. But in the meantime, I'd be interested in any insights or observations on the game. What's with Tyus's 7 turnovers? Was it his wrist? What accounted for Payne's success tonight? Other things?

It was funny how Thibs did not look happy. That wasn't the right basketball play.
Fill me in on the details? What was Thibs unhappy about? Are we going to have to watch Thibs hold back the natural talent and freedom of our players based on his rigid old school notions of "the right" basketball play?

It's a fun game you should look forward to it.
Tyus I think may have been a little hyped up early he had like 3 TOs in the first quarter. Some passes weren't as on target as he typically would. As for other TOs they were really loading up on him and Chicago had plenty of big guards which gave him problems but may have even a bigger player too. A couple of those TOs probably were as much on other guys as they were Tyus.
Payne was still a mixed bag but he was more good than bad but really early on he was just feeling it and hitting everything including 3 straight 3's. Overall he played well all things considered. In the 2nd half there was a lot of good solid D being played by the whole team and Payne was a part of that. The problem for Payne is all mental. When to shoot. Showing himself the hell down and generally knowing his place. It's a lot of the same stuff we saw with Bennett except Payne plays too hard and Bennett sorta floated. There certainly is some talent there and at least you know he will play hard but I just don't see it working. Maybe he sticks around because they can't find anyone that wants to play for cheap that they want (and no other random cheap young player that shows up to camp forces their hand) and he sticks for now on the roster. The other possibility is making a trade of one underachiever for another. An example would be if the Sixers needed a big moving Payne for Stauksus (voted the worst SL vet player) or something like that although I would value Stauksus more just because well he is at least younger so maybe there is a bit more hope...idk anyway. Don't get your hopes up about Payne. Ugh there I go again writing too much about Payne. It's all your fault Lip.

Tyus made a hero ball play that happened to go in. It's not great to have your 6ft PG backup to 28-30ft and chuck up a 3 because he waited too long to run the play and got stuck in no mans land staring at a double team. I didn't care just because I'd rather Tyus take a 30 footer to take the lead than have him dump it off to Clark, but it wasn't a very good play by Tyus and he managed to salvage it by channeling his inner Steph.
Thibs was saying "make the pass, make the pass" as Tyus dribbled the ball against a double team, but then proceeded to hoist up a contested 3-point shot from WAY behind the arc for what seemed like the game winner, but for Valentine's heroics...
I think I'd try to trade Payne for a wing to rebalance the roster. I'd do a Payne for Jeremy Lamb swap with Charlotte as he was someone they were trying to move before the draft.
