Wiggins extension

My big concern with giving Wiggins an extension at all let alone now is that if you're Wiggins, you've gotten this fat half-assing it. Now you're gonna get a 5 year and everyone's slurping you saying you're a cornerstone piece even though you haven't put in the work. If you're him, what incentive does he have to make these massive growths in his game? He's been handled with kid gloves this entire time. When Sam Mitchell tried to yell at him, he tuned him out and Sam had to approach him like a bear. I just hope he finds a reason to get better from within because all this team has done since he's been here is effectively "what you've done to date has been awesome" when it hasn't.

Well then he gets dealt for a huge trade package because Butler and Gibson won't put up with that shit. So worst case you get a bunch of assets from a team looking to add a potential all-star talent to their roster and don't have the cap space or market to do so. He has rare scoring numbers for a guy his age. Someone will pony up if it really comes to it, which I firmly believe it won't.

Betting on someone else to relinquish you of your bad decisions is a mistake. We should take all the necessary time before extending Wiggins. Do I want him extended? Yes. Should it happen anytime before it becomes a necessity? No.

Personally, I wait to see how things are gelling in October to determine if Wiggins deserves the 5 year max. If he has not convinced them by October that he's worth of the 5-year max, then it can be put off until the next season. If he proves worth of the 5 year max next season, then give it to him right away.

I suppose the risk is he rejects it and goes for the 3+1 from someone else. But we are getting way ahead of ourselves. Let's make it to this October first...

The argument against my stance is that he can just take the QO. He can do that regardless. It is highly unlikely that His agent would advise such action.

I noticed that Monster. It seems inconsistent to be concerned about the offseason moves based on giving up some of the young guys and expecting they would have developed into something special, and yet being very cautious on extending Wiggins based on concern about how he'll continue to develop.

Lol. Well, I think I've been very consistent on my views about the offseason.

Stating that we should play our cards right regarding Wiggins' new contract actually accentuates my long term view/position. Being for organic development does not equal just paying out for the sake of paying out. Besides, We essentially gave up half of that path this summer anyhow..

like I said, I'd eat the risk and pay KAT a year early. He is so damn gifted and I dont care about the other questions surrounding his play. I don't, and most here don't, feel that same way about Wiggins. If we lose Wiggins because he chooses to take the QO, then whatever (though I am 99% sure it never happens). You trade him then. We may be better off with KAT, cap room + assets from Wiggins.

I understand the NBA is different now. Otto Porters and Jrue Holidays get max contracts. Wiggins will too. That will happen, unless something drastic happens this year, that's why I wait.

Well Khans, I'm talking about less than a 1% chance here. Yes, if Wiggins takes the QO I trade him for what I can get. KAT is the true prize in MN. He is the only one who warrants a max extension tomorrow if necessary.
