I suppose I should say a bit more, but it's hard to capture this game in words that don't include the name Derrick Rose. The crowd was about half the size of Monday night's crowd, but the noise and outpouring of emotion for the Derrick Rose in the 4th quarter was off the charts. What the Wolves did tonight, and Rose in particular, reminds me of why I love sports. Derrick is a guy who fell from the mountain long ago, but never stopped trying to climb back up -- not for money or ego, but for the love of what he does. Tonight, he took a team with a damaged heart and carried them with the power of his own enormous heart. Then, after scoring 50 points, including one big critical shot after another, he blocked that last shot of the game to seal the win. If you scripted it that way in a work of fiction, your writing would be panned as contrived and unrealistic. But it was real and a source of pure joy for any Wolves fan, and I think just about any sports fan, watching tonight.

One thing apparent tonight, and actually apparent all season, is that Derrick's teammates love him. He can give Butler lessons in leadership, but Butler wouldn't even understand. A leader is someone who inspires you to follow them, to push yourself and strive. Leaders make you feel good about them and about yourself. You become better just being around them. That's Derrick Rose.

Whether he scores 50 points or 20, efficiently or not so efficiently, Derrick Rose amps up the energy of the team every minute he's on the court. And he also quickens the pace of the offense. It's not the number of shots or even the number of dibbles Rose takes compared to Teague, it's that Rose dribbles with a purpose and keeps the ball moving in ways that challenge the opposing team's defense. Those are things he brings to the court all the time regardless of how many points he scores.

I should say a few words about some of the other Wolves players since Derrick didn't do it all by himself.

Towns was tremendous tonight with 27 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks. He competed hard all night. He missed a couple of shots late that could have sealed the deal, but his play on both ends tonight was critical to the victory. As much as anything, I loved his demeanor throughout the game. I loved the way he talked to and cheered for his teammates. And I especially loved the love he showed all game for Derrick. As a side note, KAT's dad was especially vocal tonight. He got mad at his son at one point for a foul, muttering, "that was stupid, Karl." Kind of funny to hear his dad say that. Otherwise, his dad was one of the biggest cheerleaders in our section for the Wolves generally, not just Karl.

Okogie was, once more, a joy to watch. His defense on Mitchell was tremendous. And I loved his opportunistic scoring. He has a great presence on and off the court.

Wiggins was a mixed bag tonight, but he came through with some big buckets. He dove to the floor and recovered a loose ball in the first half that ended up being as decisive as any play in the entire game. It looked like his leg was still bothering him, but he came through tonight.

A word about Jeff Teague. He didn't play and, honesty, I think the offense runs better with Rose or Tyus running the point and I also think our defense is better without Teague. But having said that, Teague is a GREAT teammate. In tonight's game, as always, he's the first one on the Wolves bench to stand up and cheer for his teammates and the first one to greet the as the come off the floor. I think the best use of Teague would be as a SG. I think we're much better off having Rose or Tyus control the ball and run the offense.

This was a tremendous game and I'm so glad I was there to see it. Nearly the entire crowd stayed to listen to the on-court interview of Rose after the game. What a great moment. It was emotional watching Rose get emotional just before that interview. This is one of those games I'll remember.

No Jimmy KAT is the player we all want to see.

Rose will get the headlines, but KAT was fabulous on both ends of the floor. he was a little too block happy which took him out of position, but I will take that from him every game.

Okogie is just a bundle of energy. I think he turns out to be a more pleasant Marcus Smart type player. A bulldog with an exuberant personality.

Wiggs looks a little slow, particularly getting around screens. instead of running through, it wa like he was trying to sweep his leg over the screener. But, I thought he had a pretty good 2 way game tonight and hit some big shots in the 4th.

I thought Tolliver got totally jobbed by the refs tonight. Its like they couldnt pick on Bjelly and Dieng, so they picked on him. He should have gotten a few charge calls and that last block was clean.

Lastly, I liked Nunnally. I was expecting a taller troy daniels type, but he's a lot more. The ball doesnt stick in his hands and he quickly passes out and then immediately cuts. He had more successful post entry passes in his limited minutes this game than teague has had this entire season.

Thank you Lip, must have been an awesome game to be at. I was jacked up after the game. I was dead wrong about the Rose signing. When we signed him last year I was like come on, he is garbage. But Thibs is the Rose whisper.

Such a fun night. Also the Jazz only made 1 FG the last 730 minutes, we just couldn't stop fouling.

What a fun game, I would say 7 of the 8 games this year have been fun. Props to the players and Thibs for making the offense for the most part fun to watch.

I was lurking on some Jazz boards last night after the game, and man are they sick of Rubio. They like Rubio but they don't know if he is the PG of the future because he goes through this stretches where he is straight garbage and is not consistent enough.

Also I loved the last 3 timeouts when the starters huddled, there was a 6th player in the huddle and that man was Loul Deng. It is seeming like he is doing his role as a vet mentor and I love it. Like you said also Teague might piss you off on the court (he does the same thing to me also sometimes) but man does he care for his teamates.

Hell of a win, and games like tonight are why I cant ever give up on the Wolves because even with all the drama these are the moments why I love sports.

So glad you were there Lip, great write-up! It's season ticket holders like you that, more than anyone, deserve to drink in these special games!

Count me in with Kek as one of the guys that has vociferously written off Rose, not just as a player, but also in terms of character (Let's not forget his legal troubles....). But that being said, it was hard not to get caught up in wonder at his performance last night. I thought for sure he was pushing his luck and he'd eventually miss 5 or 6 shots in a row and essentially shoot us out of the game. He also did make a couple of really nice passes to get KAT open looks rolling to the hoop, something Teague and Butler seem to really struggle with.

Let's not forget that Corey Brewer and Mo Williams have also scored 50+ for the Wolves, so this doesn't necessarily portend a major renaissance for Rose. I still question his durability and how consistent he can be as a shot maker. But none of us will ever forget last night!

Rose's performance and circumstance has reverberated throughout the NBA. The Timberwolve's twitter account has retweeted a number of them, including outstanding comments from LeBron.

https://twitter.com/i/status/1057873740615151621LeBron's comments.

It's just the 8th game of the season, but this game will rank right up there with some of the emotional playoff games we have had in the past!

Really happy the die-hards and the people shelling out $$ for tickets every year were able to enjoy this. Nights like this remind us all of why we love sports. Wish I could have been there. But it's cool, feels like we may have something to look forward to after all. Especially if we get a bounty for Butler in the next couple days.

Just watched the 4th quarter replay and the emotional post-game...couldn't agree more that this is why we enjoy sports! It was great to see the team play well for the first time without Butler after 2 disastrous efforts against Dallas and Milwaukee. I'm assuming the defense was horrible in the middle of the game when Utah scored 71 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but it was stellar in the only quarter I watched...shout outs in particular to Gibson, KAT and Okogie.

What more can you say about Derrick Rose? What a performance! I will say that comments in the GDT that ball movement was very good are puzzling to me...in the 4th quarter the only ball movement I saw was between Rose's hands and the floor! But even though it wasn't pretty, it worked and we came out of it with a big win.

I'm happy to see that Okogie took only 5 shots (and ended up with 10 points on those shots!). I know the players and Thibs have been encouraging him to shoot, but he is generally going to be our 4th or 5th best option on the court, and we can't have him among the leaders in shot attempts to be successful. Good for him to recognize the night Rose was having and to pass up some shots he has been regularly taking.
