Wiggins getting criticized again by some people. At least it isnt Jimmy this time.

Towns buying breakfast for all the Wolves staff this morning and Wiggins doing a nice donation thing. Neither really add up to a ton of money but its nice stuff to see. Also Butler has done some nice stuff in his career. I don't think he is some bad dude.

I agree, Monster. All three are good guys as well as talented basketball players. So far, Butler is the only one of the three to get the most out of his talent. I think Towns eventually will also. Not sure about Wiggins. As for Butler in particular, I still like him. I think he has some issues dealing well with others. But when you consider his childhood, it shouldn't be surprising that he's have some significant issues.

I think the wolves are too nice on and off the court; Kat, wiggs, lavine, rubio etc... I think they really needed a bulldog type to reel them in all together, its unfortunate that butler is so much of an extreme because i think he's the type of personality this team needs.

That was the whole thesis behind the Butler deal. He brought toughness and defense, which this team sorely lacked. And it worked for the most part. I just think Butler + Thibs was too much of a good thing in the sense that there was no one to counter the other's personality and sooth frayed nerves when necessary. Thibs lacks people skills and so does Jimmy.

Great point Q. I could see Butler working out here with a head coach who had any people skills. And if the reports we're hearing are true, it would have helped to have a PBO who understood the value of locking up Butler longer term when first acquired rather than spending $19 million on Jeff Teague.

Who's gonna kick off the first GDT? I'm looking forward to all the conclusion jumping afterwards...

Who's vertical numbers translate the best or who just gets it done? We probably should have done a broad jump measurement instead...

I suggest you step up to the plate Jerry. Perhaps come up with something clever, like "Fear and Loathing in San Antone: Wolves@Spurs GDT"©

The battle for prime senility in the Minnesota sports scene has begun in this interview:
http://www.startribune.com/glen-taylor-wolves-working-to-trade-butler-thibodeau-s-job-safe/497734421/

So what really happened?

Either Jimmy requested a trade right after the season and Tom hid it and yet somehow Taylor is ok with that and is not moving to fire Thibs immediately. Or Taylor has been complicit and in support of pretty much all of Thibs decision making in this scenario so far. So the real question is which scenario makes Glen look worse? The unfortunate answer is that any route makes Glen look completely out of his league as usual. And the worst part about it, he is not actively trying to sell the team. Thanks to Sid and Glen for this riveting look inside one of the worst franchises in sports.

Its POSSIBLE that Jimmy never demanded a trade until that date or around that date. He may have communicated all those concerns and said he was unlikely to re-sign here. At soem point he may have realized he didn't want to play out the year with this group etc and then requested a trade. Regardless it doesn't make anyone look good but it could easily explain why it seems like someone is lying etc. The reporting still seems to be people aren't convinced Thibs is willing/wanting to trade Butler. I'm starting to believe that's more true than I thought. Hopefully its basically to drive up the price. I'm basically bracing for the worst...kinda (I'm sure it could get even worse than this) which is getting nothing for him. Still Glen said they were still looking to trade him and they can't keep him and he still owns this franchise so he can make something happen its his call. When???? no clue

I'll add that if I was any team interested in Butler I would wait a few games. IF the Wolves go 0-5 or something and get blown out even with Butler that would have to drive down the price etc.

I think you're right that is still a possibility and as I've said before relying on Jimmy to be a direct communicator is a stretch. But the dichotomy remains as far as I'm concerned regardless of the timeline of communication. Either Taylor has been actively complicit in this circus, or he has been left in the dark and doesn't have enough balls to take direct action for insubordination. I share your sentiment that it can get worse, but that mainly has to be that our owner has shown that he can always reach new lows. Not a single lesson learned from the exits of KG, Spreewell, Cassell, and Love. Be sure for another "media exclusive" where Taylor talks shit about Jimmy on his way out.

Monster, I am not worried about him walking away for nothing for the simple reason that if we don't get significant assets, we will simply be stuck in that mediocre no mans land. We need JRich and Adebayo to make me think we have enough young talent to try and develop over a couple of seasons. Without that we are likely to go into full rebuild mode again, and then what good does a guy like J Rich do us. He will be walking away by the time we recover.

This team is already in KG cap hell so there is very little chance they ever rise above playoff contender to actual championship contender.

It doesn't take that much to become a contender when you're starting off with a talent like KAT locked in for 6 years. I think Okogie's the real deal. Make smart use of our lottery pick next summer and things can turn around in a hurry. Wiggins is a perennial 20-point per game scorer. If he improves other aspects of his game, he's a positive contributor with the right head coach. Otherwise, you trade him for expiring contracts. Taj comes off the books next summer. Teague comes off either next summer or the one after that. Gorgui comes off the books the following summer and could be dealt for value earlier as an expiring contract. It's not like we're building from scratch. Having KAT under contract for 6 years gives the organization time to draft and develop players.

But here's the deal. Becoming a contender depends on hiring a good PBO and good head coach. Unfortunately, we currently have neither and I don't trust Glen Taylor to replace him, if at all, with someone good enough to provide the team what it needs.
