Well, that is indeed off the deep end.

The boos are completely legit in my opinion. When a pro athlete signs a deal that makes him the highest paid player on the team, there is an expectation that his effort and production will live up to that contract. Instead, Wiggins is grossly underperforming his salary. It's not even close. I think the boos the other night were more a result of cumulative frustration with him than just the missed free throws.

I agree with the take here that it's fine to boo a player who is underperforming. And just to clarify, most of the boos were after the game was over. When Wig was at the line, I would classify the prevailing sound as a groan rather than boos, and I would say that was worse than the post-game boos. Free throws are unique in basketball because, unlike other aspects of the game, they are not instinctive...time stands still and you have a lot of time to think about what you are doing, and thus there is more of a psychological component to it than shots that happen in the flow of the game. We don't know for sure, but I suspect that the groaning in the arena while Wig was at the line didn't help his confidence much, and might have had something to do with his misses and the outcome of the game. I'm okay with the fans who booed as they left the arena (I may have been one of them), but not okay with the "shitty" groaning fans who may have had a hand in this loss. They helped turn a home court advantage into a home court disadvantage.

Yep, FT's are more like Golf. Tell your playing partner not to shank it in the lake is sort of akin to the moaning and groaning before and after he missed so many FT's. Any negative vibe or thought can be destructive, That is unless the mental focus and confidence is high enough!!! Clearly Wigs confidence isn't very high at the moment. Thus he was susceptible to the background negativity. He lashed out after, probably from frustration from the fans and his own suckitude.

Minnesota fans are bad. They're always waiting for the worst to happen, and generally try to act like they don't really care that much about their sports. We've had multiple franchises leave without much real action. We've stadiums rot until owners treaten to leave. The negative atmosphere around Wiggins is a microcosm of the culture, fans just don't care that much and as far as I can tell neither does the owner. A healthy franchise would have had the owner and Wiggins give a joint press conference about how much they care about their fans.

All that being said if fans have the right to be negative about Wiggins then he has a right to be negative about them. None of it is healthy or a good sign of the state of our franchise. But it's where we are at, we're a joke of a franchise and now frustrated players and frustrated fans are aiming their attacks at each other rather than the individual most responsible, Glen Taylor. He's the Billionare who's been putting out a lacklustre product without caring at all for a while. How come people don't go to the game and boo that loser the whole time. At least Wiggins is out there trying to win. Seems like all the frustration is misguided as I see it.

I am a crappy fan. I don't really pull for the teams unless I feel a connection towards them.

I typically like the empty bandwagons and will exit when they get full. The process and work in building a team is fascinating to me.

Doper, why is it you don't think the fans should have the right to be critical of WIggins, but it sounds as if you think they should be handing over their money for the venues these teams play in. The fact that they can pay Wiggins 150 mil, or Gorgui 60 mil makes me think they should be spending less on contracts, and building their own arenas.

Wiggins is clearly delirious when determining his current level as a BB player. This guy came out publicly and stated he thought he was a max player. He has shown no substantial improvement in his 4 years here. I think he should have come out and apologized for his performance the other night (not that I watched it). I thought it was hilarious that he said he would hit the gym and get back to normal for the next game. Does he realize how far below a max player level his normal is?

I'm a shitty fan, and I'm okay with that. I'll qualify that by stating that making threats/personal insults against players and/or their families does not make you a shitty fan, it makes you a shitty person. That said, I wouldn't boo Wiggins when he's shooting free throws with the game on the line, but I do groan everytime the game is on the line and the ball is in his hands.

I cannot think of another player who appears to care so little. I'm not saying he doesn't care, I'm saying I can see no evidence he cares in his demeanor on the court. Between his inconsistent effort, lack of improvement, and franchise killing contract, he makes it really easy to dislike him as a player. The sad thing is if he only appeared to be as pissed off about the team's lack of success as the fans it would make it easier to relate to him. Rubio was a lot like Wiggins in that he came here with massive upside that he never realized, but there was never any question about his effort or if losing bothered him. Wiggins problem isn't that some of us are shitty fans, it's that Wiggins doesn't just make it easy to be a shitty fan, he makes it hard not to be.

This is a pretty fair take.

I said clearly fans can be critical of Wiggins and Wiggins can be critical of fans. But when fans and players are always looking for something to bitch about you've got the recipe for a bad sports market. I think the Wolves are top of the NBA in shitty franchises right now. The fans are pessimistic and angry, the owner is asleep at the wheel, and the players underwhelm and underperform.
