Butler nearly sat Friday night's game -- after intending to play -- as Philadelphia deal took form. Sides finalized agreement before Minnesota flew out of Sacramento.
Covington is similar in age to richardson, makes similar money, and is probably one of the best 3d type wings in the league. And we get a big upside pf.
And most importantly, we didnt have to eat a shitty contract.
Will be fun to see Jimmy try and take over down the stretch of games. It isn't going to play well with two players who are better than him standing around.

Of course, maybe a better coach will have an impact on how it plays out...

Yeah, I think it was pretty clear that we got shitty contracts in both the Miami and Houston proposals. The Philly deal helps the cap situation next year.
To anyone who might say "why didn't they get Fultz?"
Had they done so, Thibs would have no justification for donating Rubio to the Jazz the way he did only to put faith in Fultz who makes Rubio look like Chris Paul from the field.
I'm ok with this. We got 2 out of 5 guys from a top 5 defense a season ago and Covington was top 5 of all players in the league. They fit around what we have. They are both extremely position versatile defensively. This is all in on Towns and Wiggins. I would see if maybe we could look to move Taj and Teague now to get a better PG. Teague isn't really built to be a top 2-3 option. It's not great, but it's not a bad deal either and we should improve defensively with these two. Richardson is better than Covington, but Saric is better than BAM so I think it's pretty even to the Miami deal.
