You need to do what boston did and get assets. We got a guy who will leave after next year and covington who will be ok but in all reality this team is going nowhere. NOWHERE. Its been a long time since i have been this unexcited about a wolves team. Is the plan for thibs to be able to get some wins here and there or for us to actually build a contender. Disappointing is the word.

If the idea is to blow it up again, then trade Towns and wiggins and be the only one at Target Center watching them

Lip- According to Woj, Glen spearheaded talks.

Joel Embiid talked with Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins about Jimmy Butler. "They thought that we were definitely going to get along," Embiid told ESPN. "He wants to win. Wiggs told me that he thought that we were going to win the East for sure."

I'll put myself out there right now and say the Wolves absolutely will NOT make the playoffs this season. So what has this organization accomplished by adding Covington and Saric? Certainly nothing this season. But Covington isn't going to get better. And I'm not sure about Saric. We have no additional draft picks. And we still have Thibodeau as head coach and PBO.

I hate to break it to you since you're a season ticket holder, but they weren't making the playoffs anyway. They're probably not making it next year either. From an upside standpoint, you weren't gonna get picks back that would cause you to believe in upside anyway because they'd be lower picks.

Butler did a splendid job assisting the Wolves in botching his value. They got what they could. They got a surefire starter and another talented guy in Saric though I think his fit with Towns with poor (I think though, if players are poor fits with Towns and Wiggins, that's totally the fault of Towns and Wiggins).

I only wish they had another pick to draft a PG to replace Teague/Rose/Jones. I hope they can at least jettison Taj or Teague to land a young PG prospect or pick.

In a must trade scenario, which this was, it's just a matter of taking the best deal you can get. I don't know if this is it... but I know both of the headliners are hard working winners that put the team first."

For the record i will guarantee we dont make the playoffs for the next 4 years minimum after this deal. And that would only be if we hit on some top picks and they mature quickly otherwise our team will be miserably bad. Im talking 30 win seasons coming up. YAY. We didnt just spend 13 of the last 14 years there or anything. You need youth or picks and we got neither.

I watched most of the first half of the recent Sixers hornets game. Here are some impressions I got.

Covington's D didn't stand out but he took an open 3 from like 30 feet out and nailed it. It was just like a regular shot for him. He was really letting some 3's fly. He also attacked a closeoit and got into the paint and was fouled.

Saric hit all 3 of his 3's and they were from the top of the key. He is often working around the top of the 3 point line while someone else has the ball. A number of times he ended up with the ball in the paint and made various kinda nifty passes to guys instead of going up in a crowd. It wasn't all positive but he Can shoot is a legit 6'10" and is a pretty good passer that plays hard.

Fultz doesn't look very comfortable out there. Watching him shoot FTs looks painful. He has plenty of length for a SG and he is playing PG. he is trying on defense but is horrible I mean Based on these few minutes maybe worse than Rookie Lavine bad. Tony Parker was making short work of him. There was one time Parker drove on Fultz and stopped short and Fultz was so far off him that Parker could have taken a bite of sandwich before taking his little 7' shot. Fultz did have some nice passes though.

Simmons is fun to watch.

Shamet is a skinny dude but was infinitely better defensively than Fultz. He does a pretty good job of working hard to stay in front of his guy. He looks longer than I expected.

I was excited to see Bridges play. He didn't do anything significant not even a highlight dunk. :)

I never expected to get Fultz and I never advocated for holding out to get Saric. The best deal with Philly, in my view, would have been Butler for Covington, Muscala, the Chicago and Sacramento 2019 second rounders, and Miami's unprotected 2021 first round pick. That would have been a more forward-looking deal with total salary relief other than Covington's salary. The way Saric has been playing so far this season is troubling. And he has only one year left on his deal after this season. Covington has no upside and the Wolves have not additional meaningful draft picks so show for this deal. That's why I'm upset.

That's just not true, Lip. You expressed great interest in Saric in the Jimmy Butler Trade Ideas thread and I can go pull multiple comments that support that. Additionally, I don't think you were wrong in any way for wanting Saric. He's a valuable piece with some already-proven seasons and some untouched potential, but is also just 25 and fits perfectly next to Towns, in my opinion. Don't let 10 games of this season throw you off of that.

I get the impression that the 2nd round pick feels like a slap in the face to some and that it's really making them hate this trade. If the finalized trade was Covington, Saric, 1st and 2nd. Would that change anyone's mind?

I doubt it'll end up differently, but I'm holding out a TINY bit of hope that there ends up being a 1st rounder attached come Monday. Wouldn't be the first time a finalized trade had a smidge more than first reported.

You might be right, but if that's the case, this trade isn't gonna be the reason why they don't make the playoffs. You might as well just say you don't believe in Towns and Wiggins, to which I say, they weren't gonna win anything anyway if they don't pan out.

That second round pick is the first year that high school kids can become draft eligible. A second round that year might be similar or maybe better than a late round pick in the next couple of years.
