You know why it's a mistake? Because people are settling for Dunn being a player that shouldn't cost us what it cost us to get him. Just in this thread there's Tony Allen /Patrick Beverly comparisons. That shouldn't have cost us a top 5 pick when it didn't cost those teams nearly as much to get them. Dunn's just another example of this team's uncanny ability to poorly develop players. You'd think with the opportunity that presents itself on a nightly basis that somebody would take advantage of it and nobody really has. We've had seasons where the team only had 8 healthy bodies and hardship exceptions and even then, not one developmental guy could come in, take advantage and surprise us. It's why a team like the Memphis Grizzlies can find, develop and get the best outta someone like JaMychal Green whereas we'll be hoping he takes a damn near max offer from us this summer. This team can't realistically expect every starter and bench player to be a lotto pick.
You can't always hit a homerun in the top of the draft, but good teams find guys who at least become solid role players. Dunn has work to do to at least move into the solid role player category. He still could blossom into something more, but the early signs are not pointing to that happening. Now if he repeats what he did this season next year, he's a bust and should join Jonny Flynn playing in the Kangaroo league.
I put Dunn in the same category as Thibs for now, they both get a chance to prove their worth next season. If it doesn't happen then, gotta cut bait.

He is a good defender who put up better numbers than jimmy butler his rookie year playing similar roles. (Not saying they are the same) give him a chance

I am giving him a chance. It's called "next season." So far he's proven to be an active, strong defender who still needs to learn not to foul so much and when to gamble. On offense he has been a complete train-wreck--can't run a team, can't shoot from the field, can't shoot the 3 ball, and possibly worst of all, 61% from the line. He's turnover prone on top of all of that. He's got work to do. But I do like what he has shown at times, especially his overall tenacity and toughness. I'd love to see him put it together next year and take a major step forward.

Last year was the weakest draft in many many years, we knew that before the draft and the rookie class is showing it with their play this year. Getting a defensive stopper would be just fine if you look at it with context. Also kind of hard to blame the Wolves for their inability to develop using Dunn when the rookie of the year has a good chance of going to a 2nd pick.
