NBA coaching sources say the Knicks have put assistant Kurt Rambis in charge of the team's defense, New York's prime area of concern at 2-4.

The Knicks began the season without specific areas of emphasis for their assistants but have asked Rambis to focus on D given the early woes

No comment. I'm trying to watch my blood pressure.

Britt Robson chimed in:

@ESPNSteinLine Wolves DRtg in two years Rambis was head coach in Minnesota: 28th (111.6 pts per 100 possessions) and 27th (111.1 pp100)

I get the idea of having one guy run the defense but is Rambis the best option? If so...um. Maybe he is the guy they hope to blame on how bad it is so they can get rid of someone that likes Phil's triangle. Genius?

Kurt Rambis + In Charge <-- Two thoughts that should never, EVER, show up in the same sentence.

Abe, sometimes it's healthy not to keep things bottled up. As a long time Wolves fan, I have earned an honorary degree in social psychology and group therapy. It's OK, let it out....then deep breaths. Then scream again if necessary. Then deep breaths again. Then quiet sobbing. We won't judge.

I have previously described Wiggins' ceiling as a rich man's DeMar DeRozan, meaning a guy that primarily scores, but with modest rebounding/assist/defensive numbers. Well, DeRozan apparently beat Wiggins to the punch. He's your leading NBA scorer at 34 PPG due to an incredible array of long 2's, mid-range floaters, and crafty work around the rim. He is truly a rare breed in the NBA in that he is able to score efficiently without the use of 3's.

I guess now we can say that Wiggins' ceiling is DeMar DeRozan, without any other qualifiers. What's scary is how much further along Wiggins is in his development as a scorer than DeRozan was at the same age. Although I do think DeRozan is a bit of an exception in how he has been on this slow, upward trajectory for many years now. Most players start to hit their ceiling in Year 4 or 5. DeRozan is in his 8th season and has taken his game to a whole other level.

Good post. It might be his 8th season but he just turned 27 in August. He also was on team USA this summer. He is just another example of a guy that might not be a finished product in his mid 20's. Ya know back in the day the late 20's was a player's prime now it seems like people expect that earlier. There were some early years in his career I certainly wondered if he was just a volume scorer and that's all he brought and if he might not be a guy that really helped a team win. He is in a good situation with the Raptors as they need him to score but I think it's fair to say the guy is a legit pretty good basketball player. I've always liked the guy and was hoping he would arrive to some extent.

Here is something depressing. After a couple years being joined in the cellar of the NBA by the Lakers, they have now surpassed us. They won handily again tonight and are 6-4.

I'm getting sick and tired of seeing teams get bad and rebuild successfully - sometimes multiple times like the Blazers - while we just keep staying bad for 10+ years. Add the Lakers to the list of teams that were better than us, then got worse than us, then quickly got better than us again.

I said months ago the Lakers might not suck. There is some talent on that team. NO does suck. The Lakers have 2 bench guards in L. Williams and Clarkson that are probably better than anyone on the entire NO team playing right now other than AD.

Very small sample size, and even if the Lakers end up with a better record this year doesn't mean they have a better future than us. I get the frustration but don't over react. They are playing with a lot more Vets than we are. I was watching the Sacramento/LA game Thursday night and was very surprised with the 4th quarter lineup Walton went with. Clarkson and Russell were on the bench the whole 4th I believe. Swaggy P and Lou Williams along with Randell were the main contributors. Williams and Swaggy aren't in there long term plans but are Vets in this league and can win games now. But it's definitely a nice start for the Lakers. This board will lose it if we lose tomorrow!!

Other people have mentioned it, but you are seeing the difference between being young everywhere vs offsetting youth with vets. They have Deng, we have Bazz. They have Williams, we have Tyus and Dunn. Our second unit is Tyus, Rush, Bazz, Belly, Aldrich. Tyus and Belly are second year guys. Bazz is in his 3rd year and Rush and Aldrich are support vets and not guys you can leave in at the end of games. We just don't have any good, consistent vets to help out our youth like they do.
