I expect nothing but a regurgitation of everything Thibs has been saying since he was hired. "We have to work hard." "We have to develop winning habits." "We have to get better." "We have the offseason for players to develop, we have the draft, and then free agency." Yada, yada, yada...
We need to be connected on both ends of the floor. We need to rebound the ball. We need to protect the ball. We need to play to our strengths and cover up our weaknesses. Yada, yada, yada...
Did I miss anything?
Oh, the end of season presser will be live streamed at 9 CDT this morning on timberwolves.com...
Blah, Blah, Blah - Thibs Presser GDT

Here's the link to the presser on facebook. Thibs doesn't enter until about the 7:30 mark...

I like Britt's response, which somehow seems right up Abe's alley!

I feel better about future of Wolves after Thibs 29-minute presser. But I've been seduced before too.

It is crystal clear that Towns, Wiggins and LaVine are THE core of this team.
When prompted, Thibs had some nice things to say about Rubio. I guess I am back on the fence as to how active they will be trying to trade him. Given the depth of PGs in the league and in free agency, and the value Rubio's contract, I am guessing he will be here next season.
His comment on Bazz was "we like him", and we will see what happens in free agency (not sure if I heard "optimistic" or not). But towards the end, the team needs were laid out very clear: shot blocking, wing defender and shooting. My guess is they wouldn't mind retaining Bazz at a reasonable price, but they envision bringing in some else to be the first wing off the bench who can defend and shoot. Bazz would retained for depth.
Thibs also had some nice words regarding Dunn's defense, although he wants the fouls reduced. No mention of his offense...

continue to work hard each and ever day, continue to build habits, be connected on defense, stay in front of your man, play smart basketball, time and possession, move the ball, each and every day, eat your cheerios each and every day build cheerio habits while they are connected eat as one build eating habits each and ever day

His name has been mentioned on this board a few times, but Serge Ibaka seems like the exact fit Thibs is looking for to pair up with Towns. I expect him to be our primary target this offseason, throwing a shitload of money his way...

Like Tim Said it seems pretty clear Towns Wiggins and Lavine are all core guys. He certainly said plenty about Belly since he was hurt. I'm not sure what more he could have said about either Rubio or Dunn without gushing like crazy or something. He said he thought Rubio's 3 point shot would be is next evolution and he expects that will come around.
Personally I thought this was a pretty good breakdown from Thibs. He sounded pretty patient and knew this season was going to be a struggle from the beginning. They are gonna look at all options etc but it seemed clear when he said multiple times they need the right vet players that fit with Towns Wiggins Lavine that they aren't just gonna chase after whoever. Buckle up folks for a disappointing FA period if you are hoping for a high level impact player.

Finally listened to this. Here were my takeaways:
- As Tim and Monster mentioned, the KAT-Wiggins-LaVine trio is the core, so we can rule out speculating about any trades involving these three guys.
- Thibs then went on to emphasize the need to fill in around those three with complimentary players. I only wish they complimented each other more! All three are scorers first and foremost, with dirty work and toughness dead last.
- Thibs did hold Wig and KAT accountable for their poor defense and said it all starts with them. I have a feeling he gave them some tough feedback in the exit interview. It's too bad we didn't see him take a tougher approach with playing time. His in-game actions as a coach belies his tough talk in this regard. He enabled these guys to be lazy defenders IMO.
- Given his comment on shot blocking, it sounds like he seems determined to retain KAT as a starting PF that then slides to Center with the second unit. That means we may not be targeting a Milsap/Taj Gibson type but may be a true Center instead. I might be reading too much into that comment.
- He did mention getting a wing defender. To me, that means Bazz is gone, even though his defense was better this year. We already have Wiggins and LaVine, so that third guy on the wing needs to be an outstanding defender.
- Like other coaches before him, Rubio grew on Thibs and he eventually came around to what kind of professional he is. While I wouldn't rule out Rubio being dealt, it certainly sounds like there is a good chance he'll be back next year, especially since Thibs thinks his 3-point shot will improve.
