Cool.

Uhh, it would still be nice to pick up a defender and 3 point shooter somewhere on the wing! Cunningham?

Finally, the free agent market is really drying up for players after last year's bonanza. Next year could be more of the same, plus there are more players like KCP and Noel who will join next year's free agent class as well, making the market even more saturated. Teams with cap space could clean up on great deals next year.

Very good news for the Wolves. I've wanted this to happen for the past month and I'm thrilled it finally came to pass. This signing really shores up our bench. Crawford gives us scoring and ball-handling off the bench at the SG position and possibly the PG position. Bazz gives us scoring and rebounding off the bench at the SF position and possibly the PF position. In addition, Bazz has become a decent defender and he's still young with upside at age 24. I have no doubt he'll help this team win games. And I can see him starting for a stretch if Butler or Wiggins goes down. If Bazz develops a consistent 3-point shot (something I consider very plausible), then he'll be our 6th man and a major piece of the puzzle for this team.

Another benefit is that we can re-sign Bazz next season without using a cap exception. So if he contributes as I believe he will, this signing provides the Wolves with significant additional cap flexibility.

Thibs plans to fill 2 of our remaining 3 roster spots. One of those 2 spots should go to one of the remaining available free agent three-point shooters - which right now would be Morrow, Dunleavy, Aaron Brooks, Gerald Green and Isaiah Canaan in that order. I'd probably focus on signing Aaron Brooks because he would give us more depth at PG while also improving our three-point shooting. Isaiah Canaan might be someone to consider as well if we can't sign Brooks. Then I'd concentrate on signing Thomas Robinson. I like the idea of adding his rebounding and high energy as well as his youth.

You could put Cunningham on the list of three-pointshooters based on his three-point stats last season, but those stats were so our of step with the rest of his career that I can't yet consider him a 3-point shooter. But even if his three-point shooting regresses to his mean, he'd still be a nice addition since he can defend and rebound. I'd still lean towards Robinson, but I'd be fine with Cunningham.

So for my taste, I'd like to see us sign Brooks and Robinson. My next choices would be Canaan and Cunningham.

Wolfson reported yesterday there is slight optimism on Dante coming here. I'll take Cunningham over Robinson because I simply consider him a much better player. I don't really see the need for another big especially one that may in this NBA be really only a center in some games.

I am happy we added depth with Bazz. But don't think Bazz made this choice out of the goodness of his heart. He and his new agent would have examined all possibilities, including what can happen next year. Playing time had to be a major consideration in his their choice. But with FA money being even tighter next year, I think they decided retaining his Bird rights was better than taking a little more money somewhere else right now. Because with his Bird rights, FA money doesn't matter as much next year, whether it is re-signing with the Wolves or pursuing a sign-and-trade.

Thomas Robinson would be great, but would you pick him over Cunningham or a PG?

Below is a good read on him. I always wondered why he has bounced around so much. I don't see it in this article, but still wonder.

There's usually something troubling behind that kind of player movement. One quote in the article gives us some clue of what that something is:

"I just want a chance. I want to show an organization that I'm going to be mature, work well with the coaches, earn their confidence, get playing time and then do the right thing on the court when I get those minutes. I can say right now to whichever team signs me: I promise I won't let you down."

There must have been some maturity, work ethic and/or coachability issues with him. That would explain his 5 teams in 6 seasons as well as the fact that no team, including the Lakers to date, has picked him up in free agency.

Monster -- I'll have to admit that Cunningham would be a better fit for the Wolves right now because of his veteran experience, ability to guard some SFs and what appears to be a late-developed 3-point shot. But Robinson is far more intriguing as a longer term fit for the Wolves as Taj gets older and eventually leaves in 2 years. Even in the shorter term, we could certainly use an upgrade over Aldrich who probably won't be around after next season either.

What makes him intruiging? Maybe I'm missing something. :)

There is nothing about Thomas Robinson that appeals to me. Sure, he's athletic and in his 20s, but he sucks. Dude has played for 6 teams in 5 years for a reason. There is no long term future for him in this league.
