Amile Jefferson

Post by Monster »

Yesssss!!!!

https://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/wolves-convert-amile-jefferson-standard-nba-contract

So know we have just the guy we need to battle those pesky 3 point shooting teams when we get to the playoffs. Ok the reality is this is probably more about rewarding a guy they like with some extra money especially if they actually make it. It seems they value him more than Anthony Brown going forward. I think Jefferson might have a better upside than Brown but Brown's theoretical skillset is what this team needs more. I really thought it was more likely Brown would get this last roster spot so I'm a bit surprised Amile got it although I like it for the future.

I agree with you, Monster. I'm happy for Amile and think he deserves it as a reward for stellar G-League play this season. I think he'll be good NBA bench player over the long haul, so I'd like to see him stay with this organization. But I agree that Brown's skill-set is more in line with what this team needs going forward. I just wish both guys had the opportunity for some meaningful NBA minutes this past season. Just once, I'd like to see this franchise develop an young player or two and then benefit from their development. I actually like what I've seen of Brown in the G-League this year. I also wish MGH had received more playing time this season. I don't quite know yet what to think of him, but there's some talent there, especially on the defensive end.

He probably fits as a "Thibs guy" more than any of our other G-league players, including Patton. He has worked his butt off to become an elite player in that league (led it in rebounding, really high FG% too, solid passer).

I'm not sure how much his game translates to the NBA level, but I'm happy for him personally. Well deserved.

I agree with all of this and I remember you were really impressed with Amile in training camp so kudos to you there. I agree with Q that he is probably the most Thibs type guy of some of the young players.

As for Brown I like him but I also don't know how impressed I should be. For a guy with his sweet looking shot he ONLY took 5.5 3's per game for the Wolves and he played a bunch of minutes. I think he has some diversity to his offensive game and he has nice length. The question in my mind is how much better is he than some other G-League wings? One guy I'm still intrigued with on the Iowa Wolves is Michael Bryson. He doesn't have the ball handling ability and scoring of Brown but was ridiculously efficient hitting a high percentage of 3's (on a similar rate per minute) and finished the other shots he took. He seems more like a role player type and his physical defensive tools are there despite being a shorter guy. The point is that Brown has a nice season and turns 26 in October. Jefferson just put up terrific numbers as a rookie in the G-league as one of the best bigs and probably players there. I saw a tweet somewhere and so I don't know about it's reliability but it suggested that Amile's contract may have a non-guarantee for next season as well which would be good news and make sense for both sides. Brown had a nice season but it wasn't spectacular and I just brought up Bryson as a guy on the same roster that I have some intrigue in and certainly there are other guys out there that are probably more interesting. Still they played the guy a lot and he performed well so that's worthwhile too.

Back to these wings like you said we need to finds and develop some guys that are worthwhile players. It feels like the Iowa Wolves were overall a success in their first season. Can that have some positive effect going forward not just this year but beyond? Let's hope so. I think it's a good way to develop some talent and as that league continues to evolve and be more stable the level of talent and play is going to go up and even more talent will come from there.

I think amile actually is someone that can be useful against the rockets. Outside of nene, they aren't really big. But they are quick and grind. I think amiles would be alot more useful against their small ball line ups instead of dieng. I also think hed match up better with capela than dieng would.

Agreed. Heck I think even MGH could be a better option than Dieng at times against the Rockets when they play smaller. Basically the only reason Dieng should see the floor in this series is if Capela, Nene or Tarik Black is on the floor. With Luc out the Rockets night play a bigger player more which could help us some. It could also mean plenty of minutes for Joe Johnson which means another wing type defender would be needed.

Apparently that wing defender is rose.

Watching thibs trot out a 3 pg line up scares me against the rockets.

I haven't seen every game but Rose has looked pretty solid defensively to me. That contest or near block at the rim he had later in the game last night was pretty impressive. Other than Harden the Rockets don't really have any guys with a ton of size that will overwhelm him offensively so...yeah sure play him. I forgot about him. Shame on me. Lol

Awards are piling up for Amile Jefferson. It's the G-league but it's really impressive what he did there. He was simply one of the best players in that league and it was his first season.

It's pretty cool. I'd like to see Amile get a chance to play with our NBA team, if not in this year's playoffs, at least next regular season. It's time we started developing and benefitting from young below-the-radar players.
