Wiggins scores a few more points on worse 3P and FT%. Of course has fewer boards (they usually play different positions).

Cunningham is a meh player. Rondo, same.

You might be right about Cousins, he puts up stats but they are on losing teams.

I've voiced my dislike for Cousins previously. For all he brings to a team (A LOT... he's extremely talented)... he gives much of it away with his poor effort getting back on defense, his lazy/careless TOs, constant whining, fault-finding and god-knows whatever drama that seems to perpetually follow him around.

That's kind of my point. Rondo. Cunningham. Mirotic. Okafor. Et al. They're all "meh" players, aren't they?

Davis has been spectacular. And Jrue Holiday has been largely unnoticed... fantastic. That contract he signed was probably too much. But it was worth it at least for this season.

Cousins definitely doesn't give enough effort on defense. Now with his torn achilles I can't see anyone wanting to sign him. He might not be able to come back from that just for the fact that he's 7 foot and 320 pounds.

One thing that Mirotic likely does even though he isn't shooting great from 3 as a Pelican is spacing. I'm guessing teams and players don't just leave him alone out there. Plus in less than 30 minutes he is giving them 7.4 rebounds and almost a block and a steal. He is a much better complimentary player than other guys they have run out therethis season. Cunningham wasn't shooting well for them and then wanted out and went to the nets and has shot like a career high.there are a lot of reasons that team has come together and for AD's sale it's good to see. Without Cousins this roster also favors more the strengths of Gentry as a coach as well which has probably helped.

Now Kyrie Irving is out for the year.

Tough break(s) for Boston. That team COULD have been really really good. Imagine that team with Kyrie Irving at the point. And Brown, Tatum, Hayward and Horford switching EVERYTHING on defense. Finally a team that might give James/Cleveland a run for the Finals.

Heck, they're 28 - 11 on the road. That's incredible, especially for such a young team.

[Note: Seeing what's happening again this year in the East, why would James ever want to go to the West? Sure, Boston and Philly look promising... but neither has proven it in the playoffs... yet.]

Not surprised. Kyrie has been awesome....but he misses a ton of games every year. He has played 75% of games for his career to date. Real bummer for that team, as a 2nd knee surgery isn't good news.

They're saying all the right things... that the knee is sound and all that and they're just removing the screws. 5 months seems like a long recovery for something like that though.

And I forgot about Marcus Smart and Daniel Theis, too. Both were super good defensively. Both also done for the season. Injuries. Injuries. Injuries.

So what gives? Players are bigger. Stronger. Faster. Technology is better. Nutrition/sleep is better. Therapy is better. Travel is easier. There are more "off" days than ever. Heck, even shoes are better. But has it reduced injuries? Or, are there more than ever? Any studies/theories out there?

Many use to take steroids for recovery? Now they don't? Except James with his Miami Doctor gives him some HGH which is undetectable in tests.

I do think James is on something. I always thought the same for Adrian Peterson.

The NBA's rather meek drug policy... has been highlighted in the past.

I believe strongly that the HGH users are greater than the Don MacLean, Matt Geiger, Soumaila Samake, Lindsey Hunter, Darius Miles, Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu types who have been busted.

But like baseball 25 years ago... it's really really good for business to keep things as is for as long as possible.

Don't know what the deal is with all the injuries....May be these guys need to just not really play or practice at all during the offseason and just go off and do something completely different for a couple months. Don't start ramping up until a couple weeks before camp. Just spit balling....

I think it is primarily 3 drivers:
- Guys are flat out bigger, and extra weight certainly puts wear and tear on joints.
- While working out is great, the extent of training these days, and the build of these athletes most likely plays a huge role in the deterioration of ligaments and joints. My kid is 7th grade, and they are already doing weight type training for many sports, which isn't good for growth plates, etc.
- There are a lot of studies related to the injury impact of single-sport specialization. Baseball, they are seeing kids get Tommy John surgeries in their early teens. Basketball is often considered the worst as the continuous play on hard courts are absolutely HORRIBLE on a persons joints. Additionally, since it is almost always played inside, there are also thoughts that the lack of sun and it's benefits to bone health, etc play a part.
