Comparing KAT's 2nd year numbers to some HOFers

Post by Q12543 [enjin:6621299] »

We did this from time to time last season:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.fcgi?request=1&sum=0&hint=Hakeem+Olajuwon&player_id1_select=Hakeem+Olajuwon&y1=1986&player_id1=olajuha01&hint=Shaquille+O%27Neal&player_id2_select=Shaquille+O%27Neal&y2=1994&player_id2=onealsh01&hint=Anthony+Davis&player_id3_select=Anthony+Davis&y3=2014&player_id3=davisan02&hint=Tim+Duncan&player_id4_select=Tim+Duncan&y4=1999&player_id4=duncati01&hint=David+Robinson&player_id5_select=David+Robinson&y5=1991&player_id5=robinda01&hint=Karl-Anthony+Towns&player_id6_select=Karl-Anthony+Towns&y6=2017&player_id6=townska01

I stuck Anthony Davis in there so that we got at least one of his contemporaries in there.

KAT is right there with "the greats" when it comes to his 2nd year numbers. David Robinson was really, really good in his 2nd year, but keep in mind he was also 25 years old. In fact, a number of these guys were older than KAT or had more college experience.

Once KAT gets better defensively - and he still has a long ways to go on that end - he is absolutely going to be an MVP candidate some day.

He has the best Reb % and best Assist % of this group and is clearly the best outside shooter too. The rebound % is what is most impressive to me, as these other guys (with the exception of AD) spent way more of their time close to the hoop. KAT is often guarding out on the perimeter, so he is pursuing defensive rebounds.

He's an incredible talent.

That weak AD is only playing 35 minutes a game. Wilt played over 42 mpg at the age of 36. This generation is so weak.

It is somewhat telling about his defense when you compare his stl/blk rates and d-rating.

Overall, he is a great player to watch. HoF bound. I'm so glad we had pieces in Wiggins, lavine, rubio, and dieng in place before we got him. Maybe we won't waste this generational talent.
