Does Towns not get enough respect from refs in your eyes?
Since the All-Star break, KAT is 1st in FGA within 5ft of the basket, 1st in 2PT FGA with a defender within 2ft, and 63rd in FTA.
KAT is top 10 in PTS, FGA, FGA within 5 ft, Post Touches, Paint Touches, and 2PT FGA with close defenders, but doesn't crack the top 50 in FTA or fouls drawn in the post, and is 38th in fouls drawn in the paint.

Yup. Thibs complained about this in his post game conference. It'll come...

He's a big. Bigs get screwed by refs. It sucks but it probably won't change until he's been in the league a little longer.

I though Jim Petersen saying "Towns is becoming a hard player to officiate" was a good point. Towns is so good when he is trying to score in the pair and when he posts up he creates contact and plenty of times he initiates the contact whether with his body his shoulder or his off arm.
He start getting more calls as time goes on.

Those are amazing stats though in terms of the ratio of touches in the paint versus fouls.
A guy that is so talented in the paint AND out on the perimeter is just ridiculous. He's becoming a better version of the 13-14 Kevin Love.

Towns is also so skilled that he often initiates contact and then makes a good move around a player (spin into a jump hook, for example) that he goes away from contact. I also get really tired of how much he complains about getting fouled. Refs might just be waiting for him to earn the respect before rewarding him.

Like the previous poster indicated, I think it's somewhat understandable because he's not really a banger. He's so skilled, he's good at avoiding contact and still getting shots off. He's not like Shaq who drew contact on almost every touch. That probably explains part of the discrepancy indicated in the original post.
The other part of it probably is just a matter of time until he starts getting superstar calls. I actually think offensively, he sometimes reminds me of Durant, if you can believe it. And like Durant, he might learn how to draw fouls on jump shots a bit more with his shot motion, and using pump fakes to draw fouls.
And yes, I do wish he'd stop whining to the officials. He's not yet in Kevin Love territory, but he needs to forget the refs and just play his game.
Still, man, that guy is good!

I agree with the idea he needs to chill out on the refs but I do think he has some reason to get frustrated. I think he should have some discretion though. One play he was all pissed about in the Wizards game the post defender walled up certainly didn't foul him. Towns initiated the contact and even elbowed the guy higher than his chest. He needs to learn to pick his battles with the refs. I think he has done a better job of being more aggressive seeking out contact instead of being more Al Jefferson and just being a thirsty scorer looking to just get the bucket.
Who would you say is a better deep post scorer in the NBA right now than Towns? Its a bit hard to say partly because so many teams have gotten away from that but damn Towns is nearly unguardable. I think Zaza defended him nearish the basket the other night (he had help) about as well as anyone I have seen in a few weeks.

He is unguardable (or nearly) because he is so versatile and shoots such a high percentage. We have seen him dominate the game in so many ways. I actually think he is doing a bulk of his scoring by doing different things right now, meaning he makes jumpers, FTs, jump hooks, put backs, etc. His low post game continues to get better, but it is still raw. Shaq, Duncan, David Robinson, Olajuwon were NBA Champs because they were so good around the hoop when their team needed a bucket. Towns is almost there, but is still learning what moves to go to, when not to force things, how to use his body and how to read double teams. When he figures all that out, which I am confident he will, we will be a top seed in the West!
