I think losing Kerin might be something we regret. He could play both G and C. Then again you have 3 guys that can play center starting. I wonder if they would consider switching them around based on matchups. I have never seen it done it would be an interesting thing to throw at a defense.

They do have a Remington trophy winner on the practice squad that's been active a few games for the Bears.

Just saw that. I have more confidence in Kerin as a backup if needed, but again maybe he didn't fit the type of zone blocking we are doing. You think more of these changes would have happened earlier in the offseason.

I have more faith in Kerin also. I think Kerin was just a cut because of numbers I doubt it was a system thing because the way I understand it he probably fits the system. They basically kept 2 young tackles in Hill and Collins and then a young guard in Isadora plus super sub Sirles plus they had 3 backup centers starting on the oline. Apparently Kerin wasn't good enough to keep 10 lineman. Maybe they felt like they could get someone as good or nearly as Kerin on the PS which maybe they did.

One thing to consider is that keeping a young guy like Collins is if he is worth keeping around he will be dirt cheap for what like 4 years? Same with Isadora. Every year you can have an olineman making less than a million bucks a year sounds good based on what below average guards are sometimes getting in FA. Obviously the Vikings are going to need to be putting more resources towards building the oline but if they can find a couple legit cheap players along there that would be a pretty nice deal. Heck Elf is gonna get paid less than 4 million the next 4 years and seems likely to be the teams starting center the whole time.

Who is the backup LG now? Did anyone they kept play LG in preseason? It seemed like Clemmings played a lot of snaps at LG during the preseason.

I'd think Sirles is the backup LG. I'm pretty sure he played there some in the preseason.

I wonder is Isdora would come in at RG and Berger would flip to LG. Hopefully we don't need to find out.

Back to what you said earlier. I have heard the Packers say they won't pay big money for interior OL. They seem to do fine, but they also seem to excel at developing guys.

Look around the league the last couple off seasons. Teams have paid up a bunch of money for guards. The Vikings paid Boone 6 million a year. The Packers have done a good job but it also helps when you have HOF QBs they make everyone look better.

Another option would be Berger going to C and Elf going to LG. I would think something like was suggested by either of us would only happen if Easton was out for a long time. I would think Sirles would be a plug and play guy short term.

The real question in my mind comes down to just how high are they on Collins?

The idea has been brought up a few times about how the new offensive scheme may have changed how the team has looked at oline positions. The Vikings update guy on Souhan's podcast said how he can see the Vikings looking for really mobile guys instead of big guys. Collins is lighter than Beavers and has track star parents. I remember Boone said Clemmings was a technician which was interesting and weird who knows if it's true. If it is I'm not sure that's the type of guy you want moving around making blocks in a run game. Remember this crappy line was actually way better last year protecting the QB compared to run blocking which...is kinda frightening. lol it's gonna be interesting to see how this all works out. Hopefully Remmers can at least be decent at RT other than injury that's the spot that seems most worrisome.

49ers signed Elijah Lee off the Vikings PS. The 49ers had wanted to sign him to their PS earlier but the Vikings stepped up their offer. Vikings added LB Antwione Williams to the PS to replace him. This draft class and UFA class still looks pretty good.

I liked Lee and it sucks we lost him, but I like the guy we picked up.
