I actually think he is doing a bulk of his scoring by doing different things right now, meaning he makes jumpers, FTs, jump hooks, put backs, etc. His low post game continues to get better, but it is still raw. Shaq, Duncan, David Robinson, Olajuwon were NBA Champs because they were so good around the hoop when their team needed a bucket. Towns is almost there, but is still learning what moves to go to, when not to force things, how to use his body and how to read double teams. When he figures all that out, which I am confident he will, we will be a top seed in the West!

The thing that is just devastating is that when he can't get a jump hook or up and under off on post-ups is that he can hit that turnaround jumper. Other than Dirk, it's a shot we rarely see big men take anymore. He's got such a crazy good touch with multiple shot-types. The 3 is only going to get better too.....

I think his issue is that he complains far too much far too early in his career. Once you're established in the league is when you can bitch and get calls for it.

I wonder what kind of work professional sports teams do in scouting referees, officials, umpires etc. I would imagine baseball teams pay a healthy amount of attention to home plate umpires tendencies.

I officiated plenty in college. If you complain/whine to me...I'll be less likely to give you the call. If you see something you are concerned about and you bring it up...even if you are a little hyped up after what you saw as no call? That's fine. If there is a break in the action I'll let you know what I see and that I'll watch out for your concerns. I tried to communicate as an official. My teacher in college called it preventive officiating. Address the concerns before they get out of hand. Some officials may have that type of approach (some of that is personality). Some may have a different approach. I didn't have to worry much about the crowd of thousands of people getting on me maybe a few bench warmer former Husker football players to worry about when I officiated flag football but yeah.

It's a heck of a tough job officiating basketball. I would wonder if there are some officials that you could play them a bit and have someone scouting for your team in how to do it based on stats and how they react. Chat them up or say nothing or have a well timed rip of them etc. Maybe NBA teams don't go to deep on that because (there are other things more important especially when you have a young team) but also the league might not look too kindly on it. It would be interesting to see what tendencies different NBA officials have.

Who gets the most foul calls on this team? Wiggins. He points out he gets fouls but rarely goes over the top or even does much more than slaps his hand and says something beyond chatting with the official a couple possessions later during a dead ball. Does that mean his approach to officials helps him get calls? Probably not it's his basketball skill and game that does that.

A lot of good players at whatever level they are complain about officiating. Why? They are often the most competitive guys on the court and often they are some of the best versed on the game and so they either really feel the call was wrong or just feel they KNOW what happened even if that's not the case. Those guys playing in leagues where the officials are actually terrible (I've been one of those bad refs) is not a good thing. Lol

Just imagining officiating an NBA game...omg the only way I would feel more overwhelmed would be actually playing in an NBA game.

Rules are rules, there is not one set for young players, one set for vets, and yet another for stars. I don't care if he complains about legitimate missed calls when just looking in LBJ's direction results in free throws. Refs should be calling a foul a foul even when it's a rookie, and shouldn't be calling squat when there is no foul but the player is a star. I find it absurd that as fans we discuss getting superstar calls as though it's a legitimate part of the game. It's a part of the game, but it never has been legit.

Imo I think as players are in the league longer officials get to see and understand their game (the player also makes adjustments) and therefore those really good players get the benefit of the calls as time goes on. Superstars get some star calls be they tend to be good at forcing the officials to make those calls.
