Thibs FA conference call

Post by Monster »

I listened to most of this last night and a couple things jumped it at me.

They asked Thibs about how many more players they were going to bring in and he said around 4. They have 10 players now so at first I was thinking why now have 15? This morning ai remembered they have the 2 way contract players as options to call up if they Kay need bodies and it would make more sense to keep that 15th roster spot open to either sign a player later in the year or make some sort of trade. Maybe they will end up with the max amount of guys on the roster but it would be a little less terrible if they did this year because of the split contracts.

I thought his comments about the summer league guys and finding young players was interesting. It certainly seems they are looking for those gems that they really need to find going forward.

It was kinda hilarious at one point the call was interrupted by an advertisement being loudly played on a device. It stopped and then a few seconds started playing again.

Thibs said they are in a good position to get players to fill out the roster specifically shooters.

One of Thibs big point of emphasis last year is he wants his bigs to roll hard to the hoop because if the pick is set properly and the ball handler can turn the corner, someone from the baseline has to provide rim protection, thus freeing up an open corner 3. My guess is he views a Taj/Teague pick and roll game to lead to more kick outs for corner 3s. Wiggins and Butler are actually 40%+ shooters from the corner, so perhaps we generate more 3s that way (?).

Monster -- Are you including Justin Patton in that current 10?

Good thoughts. Dieng and Towns didn't really excel in that area. One factor to consider though was last year for the most part the only guy that was really going to deliverer those passes was a PG. Lavine did show some flashes but nothing consistent enough. This year They will have Butler and Teague than can make those plays and Teague is a highly statistically rated pick and roll player. I can't remember who was saying Teague and Horford were really good working together in Atlanta of screens so Teague and Towns could be crazy good...if Towns progresses to be a better player off screens which isn't a strength of his game right now espcially relative to his other offensive gifts. I'd bet on him figuring it out though.

Monster - I had read a bunch of the quotes, but have not seen an actual audio recording of the press conference. Where did you find that?
