Mixed Feelings

Post by Q12543 [enjin:6621299] »

I've been off the board for about the past week on vacation (along the Oregon coast, in Cool and Slim's neck of the woods - absolutely beautiful part of the country!), but have definitely been keeping a close eye on things and just trying to digest everything that has happened.

The fact is the Butler trade followed by the Rubio for Teague swap at PG has led to a sea change in our roster and certainly our expectations. Everyone here knows I am a massive Ricky Rubio fan, but I was even emotionally invested in guys like Dunn and Zach. I thought there was a lot to look forward to in seeing these guys that we drafted grow together, for better or for worse.

So while Jimmy Butler is THE perfect fit for this team and what ailed it last year and Jeff Teague is a solid PG (not as sold on that deal, sorry), I will admit that I'm a bit disillusioned by the roster turnover and not being able to root for some guys that I really liked and looked forward to see growing.

I agree. I will continue to follow Ricky because I am a fan. Maybe I'll end up a Jazz fan. I'm fine with the Butler trade, we got the best player, and upgraded the team.

But really , is Teague better than Ricky? Yeah I know, a better fit, costing Ricky's defense and passing, both superior to Teague. I'm left with the gut feel that more than anything these moves are being driven by Glen wanting to win now. When we dealt for Cassel and Spree it worked -- for one year. I hope there is more to these moves in terms of sustainability.

I agree guys. I'll have an empty feeling without Seeing Ricky on the court next year. Even with his flaw of not being able to finish at the rim I never felt he was the reason we weren't winning. He's any easy scapegoat but I'll believe it when I see it (i.e. us winning) with Teague rather than Ricky. His other flaw of needing the ball in his hands to be effective is really the reason he's gone as Jimmy and Wig need it too.

I feel bad for him if the Jazz don't get Gordon back. He's thrust back into a fringe 8 seed team again with little hope for championship potential.

The Timberwolves are an abusive relationship. We were so used to losing that had found a way to enjoy it. I would have liked to see our guys be the ones to pull us through too, but I'm not sure it was possible with the habits we had developed. I'm sure we're all going to have a mixed feelings until we actually see the progress on the court.

Glad you are getting some Oregon Coast time in Q! Soak it in.

I'm with yah, the change has been drastic and quick, I'm just more comfortable knowing it's players that know Thibs and were playing in there prime with him. Now adding Taj to a PF set with Dieng will be gritty.

Holler if you are needing places to see or are back in the Portland area

Thanks Slim and Cool. Flew back yesterday...spent most of our time in Manzanita, while it was still relatively quiet. Been there before, so not a totally new experience, but just as beautiful as ever. The Oregon beach kicks the Jersey shore's butt. But then again, I prefer the cooler temps and more laid back environment.

Agreed on all fronts.

I agree with you Q on both topics...not loving the Rubio deal, and liking Oregon. I'll be visiting friends in Bend later this summer (and surreptitiously cheering for Ricky next year).

I'm going to be in Bend the first week in August. Does it overlap your visit at all?
