FA young player/reclamationproject/potential guy

Post by Monster »

Eventually the Dust will settle and we will have some open roster spots. It would be good to add at least one young player that could develop either into a solid role player or even more. Its possible some guys will get a few million but some may cost next to nothing. I set up a poll with some names. If you have another idea I'll add them in. You can vote for more than one if you want.

I honestly wouldn't want any of those guys, monster. Sorry!

There should be plenty of better players than those guys available for cheap as soon as teams run out of their cap space.

If you get millsap, and rid ourselves of Gorgui and Cole's money. We still have some room to make some moves. Assuming Millsap signs for 24-26. If you have that starting 5, you have Belly, Tyus and Patton. I don't mind that with staggered lineups with the starters. Obviously you need a couple more players but that's very solid. I think there is a realistic chance of the above mentioned happening.

Whoa, I wasn't assuming we'd pay Millsap that much! I can see trying to dump Aldrich, but Gorgui we should keep if we can. I would not sign Millsap if it meant losing Gorgui. I'd rather spend that money on another good player who wouldn't cost so much we'd have to trade him. Do you have any sources suggesting that's what we're planning to do?

I actually think these are the kinds of guys we are going to have to sign. I guess I would favor McLemore because of our need for shooting. He came out of college with the reputation of being a good shooter, and made over 38% of his threes last year. He's not going to give you much else, but he might be a cheap provider of threes off the bench. I might prefer Rush though, or maybe both.

Its my own poll but depending on what this team looks like in a few days I'm not sure which of these guys I would actually want either. I do think there are probably some young players with some NBA experience that would come cheap that would be worth taking a flyer one for the vet min. If they suck just waive them and sign another player. Terrance Jones might be the best reclamation project I can think of. The good teams find some young castoff players and get something good out of them. I agree we should be looking for other vets though probably first especially since we have the G-league to develop guys including Patton.

With Taj signed it feels like the guys that would make the most sense would be wing players. It seems like Mclemore is the guy with the most hype on this board.

Question is whether the $4.3 million room exception would be enough to sign Mac. I would hope so, but it depends on how many other teams would want to take a flyer on him. James Young is an incredible athlete and very young, so he might be someone to consider using the minimum salary exception.

I'd still like to believe that we can sign Afflalo using the room exception, but that seems unlikely. He's the kind of guy we need as a reliable rotation 2-way wing player off the bench to backfill behind either Wiggins or Butler.

No more McLemore. (That's crazy, are they going to let Tony Allen and ZBo walk?) Man, we need three point shooting in the worst way, but if we could somehow get a shooter AND Tony Allen to backup the wings, I'd be really happy.
