Milos Teodosic

Post by Phenom »

Saw on hoopshype

Teodosic will not play in Europe next season and Minnesota already made their move and initiated talks with him. Teodosic can share the point guard position with Jeff Teague and he will find in the roster his teammate in the Serbian national team Nemanja Bjelica.

Is this guy a shooter?

He's a very good shooter. Last season he shot over 40% from the three. This season he shot around 36%, but he had fewer catch-and-shoot opportunities. He's really known for his passing -- very Rubioesque. Picture Rubio with a jump shot and 3-point range.

Apparently the Nets and Nuggets have been courting him. I don't know how much cap space the Nuggets have left after giving Millsap $30 million per year. Obviously the Nets have lots of cap space and the allure of playing in New York. I think he'd be a great get for the Wolves as a guy who can play both the 1 and 2. It would be nice to have another ball-handler and playmaker coming off the bench other than Tyus. The question is whether the $4.3 million room exception would be enough. I don't think so, but I don't have a good sense of his value around the League. Unlike the Nets, we could offer the chance to win, make the playoffs and possible contend. He'd have a Serbian teammate in Belly, but he'd have one too in Denver.

If I remember right the Dunc'd on guys had him signing something around 10 million per and they seemed to know a bit more about his situation so...idk.

Look up just his highlights from this year...several crazy passes. If I remember right this is a guy that's also an absolute bigtime competitor and has no issue putting up shots to beat you that way although sometimes to a detriment. He could have a significant role here as top guard off the bench and he may even end up as a guy that could play at the end of the game. He isn't a bigtime athlete but has plenty of size and just plays tough. That's what I remember about him.

I hadn't heard he was coming over till a few days ago. If we could get him for a good price it would probably be a great deal.

I've seen the same review as you, Monster. I'd love to have him as or "6th man" of the bench. I'd be willing to deal Alrich and our OKC pick if it would facilitate getting him for around $7 million. Then we'd still have another $4.5 million to spend on someone else before capping out and resorting to the $4.2 million room exception. (That assumes I'm right about our cap space and I'm not entirely sure).

Sounds good in theory, but all of our prior first year Euro signings have been disasters as rookies (Pek, Shved, Bjelly).

I would think we would have to pony up more than that room exception. Maybe the Wolves will give him the combination of length of contract either long or short that makes him willing to take less than he was looking for. The is 30 so he probably doesn't want to just play on team that's quite a ways away. The Kings spent plenty (I think it was 9 per) to get their Bogdanovic to come over. This is the type of creativity I was hoping they would explore.

Also his defense...isn't considered a strength to put it nicely. You aren't going to get an offensive player with his possible skills that is a good or even average defender at this point so you probably just live with what he brings and doesn't bring.

But Pek and Belly eventually panned out except for Pek's injury. Teodosic is already 30 year old. I don't know if that counts for or against him as a potential NBA player. He's highly skilled. He's definitely a shooter - averaging between 38% and 40% from behind the arc over his career. He's a gifted Rubio-like passer. Interesting that he hasn't tried to come to the NBA before.

I don't know. If my choice is Teodosic or Afflalo, I'd probably opt for. Afflalo as a known NBA-caliber wing/3-point shooter. He's more of a sure thing. I see Teodosic as a higher risk but higher reward guy. I'd love to know what Thibs thinks. I trust Thibs not to be taken in by flash or hope, so if he's interested in Teodosic, then I'm interested too.

Monster -- I'm not sure about this, but I don't think we can offer more than a 3-year deal using the room exception. However, I'm still operating under the assumption that we have about $4.5 million in cap space if we renounce the rest of our vet cap holds. Then I would think we could offer 4 years. I agree that at age 30 he probably wants to go to a contender and I think the Wolves can honestly make the case now that we are. I would also think that he won't want to come here on a short-term deal and bounce around for the next few years. So the stability of a 4-year deal should be attractive to him. Finally, having his good friend and fellow-Serbian on the team should interest him as well.

So how about the following?

1. Sign Teodosic to a 4-yr./$4.5 million per year deal using the rest of our cap space;
2. Sign Afflalo or Thabo to a 3-year deal using our full $4.2 million room exception; and
3. Sign Dunleavy, Casspi to vet minimum deals
4. Fill out the rest of the roster with minimum salary D-League players

There is reason for skeptism on the international guys but it feels like the success of those players has been better the last few years.

Mmmmm, doesn't play defense and throws the ball away a bunch. Doesn't exactly sound like a Thibs kind of player. He isn't going to change the stripes of a 30+ year old Euro dude....hell of a passer and good shooter, but we need to spend what little cap room remains on a wing that has actually played in the NBA.
