I think it's pretty pathetic that if Aldrich gets moved, not a single player from Thibs' first offseason will remain on the team.

As it stands, there would only be 5 players left even coming back (Towns, Wiggins, Dieng, Bjelica and Jones) should Aldrich be moved.

This doesn't bode well when it comes to having to get a few minimum salary guys in here.

I just don't see the proposed value being worth it.

I agree, Kahns. In another post you suggested using the room exception to sign McLemore and the vet minimum to sign Thabo and Casspi. That would make sense to me also. I was thinking Afflalo with the room exception, but perhaps he's a guy who would command more than the room exception in the marketplace. If so, would he be worth giving away the OKC 1st round pick for the extra money to sign Afflalo rather than using it on McLemore or even on Thabo?

Never mind McLemore. He's going to Memphis for about $5.5 million per year. We can't even afford that right now.

I understand that Thibs is in a frenzy right now, but this would be shortsighted (among the taj move).

In my opinion, that pick is imperative to making a move before the trade deadline. Adding what Thibs sees we need after 40 games with the current group. It makes zero sense to me to do so now. Especially when a team would only be on the hook for half of Aldrich's contract this year, and can buy him out for 2 mil in the offseason. That makes him more valued. It also may increase the value of the OKC pick if OKC is going strong. If we use that pick now we have absolutely no 1st rounders we can utilize outside of a way future pick.

I don't have a problem with how the offseason is progressing. I might change my mind when I see the end product, but I doubt it since I am generally opTIMistic.

Aldrich is our #5 big. Moving him to create room for a decent backup wing or two seems fine with me, even if it costs us the OKC pick.

In Thibs' defense, it makes a lot of sense. He hadn't coached, watched practice, training, etc. of the incumbent players last offseason. His moves last year We're a good approach. I don't care about him moving on from Hill, Rush, or Aldrich at all. I wouldn't completely agree with trading Aldrich now, as the deadline makes more sense to me, but it wouldn't exactly bother me compared to the taj signing, Rubio/Teague deal, or the butler trade.

Hell, even this year is rather intelligent. No Mozgov, deng, Turner, Crabbe, Leonard, etc. deals that screw us for 4 years.

I see no reason why Aldrich needs a 1st attached for a dump though. His contract is plenty reasonable, and a dump should only need a 2nd. Otherwise trade near the deadline with the first for an actual player.

That's more than I would have given him so I'm not terribly disappointed in that move. It's likely gonna cost them one of Allen, Green, Randolph, VC because they only have 19 million until luxury tax which their ownership doesn't pay. That part is a little puzzling to me on their part.

I think the Grizzlies have already decided to let Allen and VC go unless they can get them on vet minimums. But still hard to see how they can keep both Randolph and Green without exceeding the luxury tax threshold. Perhaps they have some moves they can make to free up some additional cap room.

I wonder if Indiana would be interested in a sign n trade deal for CJ Miles. Make sense for both sides. We get a .400 3pt shooting wing and they get a late 1st round pick and Cole Aldrich.
