Tristan Thompson taking QO
Tristan Thompson taking QO
Saw that the Cavs and TT's agent have been unable to come to terms, and I am not surprised if the report that says he is seeking a 5 year max deal worth around 90 mil is true.
I don't see him as anything more than a ten mil/yr player in the old system, and why do agents think they should get contracts based on where the cap is going. If we thought it was going down in the next few years, would they expect max guys to take less than the max salary?
The article says they feel disrespected. What happened to it being a business, and what has he done to think he is a max player? I think the wolves may be in a very good position in a couple years with all these guys getting massively overpaid.

I don't think Thompson will ever be a max type player. His value is very high right now. I think he would have been best served to take whatever money he can get now.
Re: Tristan Thompson taking QO
He keeps turning down pretty big money from the Cavs according to what has been reported. I would guess he doesn't want to play 2nd fiddle or whatever to Love. Can you blame him? If his defense from the playoffs is for real he may be worth a fat contract to the right team but he will probably still be overpaid.

Toronto (as well as over half the league) is going to have major cap space next year and a MAJOR need for a rebounding, shot-blocking big man to pair with Jonas. Oh, and Thompson is Canadian. He basically has to survive one season and it guarantees him probably 5/100 million.

5/100 should scare the shit out of anyone trying to sign him. I really hope the market tells him to fuck off and take what he's actually worth. This is another one of those cases where a guy clearly isn't worth what he's already been offered and he still wants more. He scored 2 points in a finals game as a starter. I hope he ends up getting backup duty all year and struggles to find anything better than the 80 he was offered this year. I wish the league would do a better job of teams not overpaying all these mediocre players. It doesn't matter if the cap is going up. 20 million for 1 playoff stretch of good defense and rebounding is crap if you don't bring much to the table offensively in a league that is emphasizing spacing more and more every year.

Tristan is a role player. A very good and effective one but still a role player. He is not worth max money. He should be happy getting paid 15m a year. There is a chance that someone will pay him what he wants next season because of the cap jump but he will never live up to it.

Are you saying you think he is worth 5m a year bleed? I said he should be happy getting 15m/ year. ( Same as carrol) Because I think that is probably what the cavs offer but he reported;y wanted more. I dont think he deserves more even with the cap jump.

I don't see him worth anything close to that. If you have five players of TT's ablility signed with some backup vets, you are lucky to play .500 ball. What is he really good at other than offensive rebounding. He isn't a standout on D, and he has no offensive game whatsoever. I would take a double/double guy, but only if his D is outstanding. He certainly isn't a rim protector, and he doesn't have great size or athleticism.
