Gotta say, we're not always the most consistent on this forum.

Earlier in the season before Jabari Parker was injured, he was not given any special treatment or kudos for being the 3rd or 4th option on a playoff team and playing fairly efficiently as a result.

12 ppg / 6 reb / 2 ast / 1 stl / 49% fg. In fact, we heard repeatedly how Wiggins deserved ROY because of his higher volume stats. Ok. Fair enough.

Now, we're ALSO giving Wiggins a pass for those volume stats because he was force-fed them on a really bad team? We can't have it both ways guys.

I don't see how Wiggins was force fed stats.. if anything I wouldve liked to seen him force the issue more wether he succeeded or not didn't matter to me . I just wanted to see if we finally had a talented player willing to be the man . I saw glimpses and that gives me hope.

Q12543 wrote:These are two true statements:

#1 - Andrew Wiggins had an impressive rookie campaign where he showed incredible durability, athleticism, and the ability to score the basketball. He fully deserved the Rookie of the Year award and has tremendous upside.

#2 - Andrew Wiggins was a below average NBA basketball player last season.

I included Q's original post to take us back to what started this thread. If you take Q's points as written and look at the evidence honestly, you can't really disagree with him. It's interesting to see how defensive some fans get when confronted with any criticism of the player many see as this team's eventual franchise player and savior. But the truth is that Wiggins' rookie season was impressive as a glimpse of the great player he could become, not as a referendum on his current status or stature as a Player.

Wiggins displayed an impressive array of talents and durability. He showed the ability to post up, explode to the basket and finish strong through contact. He showed a nice although somewhat inconsistent mid-range jumper. But the stats Q identifies paint a pretty clear picture of Wiggins as a player who hasn't yet honed and harnessed those talents. And as Q elaborated, the eye test, applied objecively, paints the same picture. Like it or not, Wiggins was a below average player at least as compared to other NBA rotation players. I suppose it might be fair to bump him up to average based on subjective factors, but it doesn't fundamentally change the picture.

The picture is this. Wiggins has gifts that can make him a perennial all star and what most would call a great player. But he has a long way and a lot of hard work ahead of him to get there. That's not surprising for a 19 year old with only one year of college ball before his NBA debut. But it's the reality. Wiggins rookie campaign confirmed for me that he has the potential to be great. The only question is whether he has the passion and drive to be great. I have no doubt about the drive and passion of Shabazz or LaVine. But I'm not sure about Wiggins. I suspect he does and that it's just not as apparent because of his introverted personality. We will see.

The next two years will tell the tale. I'm just glad he'll be wearing a Timberwolves and not a Cavs jersey while we watch his story unfold.

Well he then has 2 years to figure out how to organize a successful coat drive. If he can do that we won this trade.
