Late Season Free Agents

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

Here are some of the free agents now available in case we buy out Martin or release someone. I prefer getting a young two way player as opposed to a veteran to see if he looks like someone we could develop into a useful role or rotation player.

1. Brandon Ashley
2. Jarnell Stokes
3. Raphiael Putney
4. Vander Blue
5. Xavier Munford
6. Jimmer Fredette
7. Russ Smith
8. Vincent Hunter
9. Steve Novak

Someone here was a big Stokes fan. I don't know why Memphis and Miami got rid of him or why New Orleans with their terrible roster couldn't find a spot for him, but I wonder what the concerns are with him.

I think more along the line of positions and if anyone would look good as 13-15 man on the roster next year. The hard part is think we have 2 of those 3 spots filled next year in Jones and Payne.

I'd have interest in David Lee if he wants to come to a team for playing time rather than join a contender. Playing time might help him in earning another decent contract. We have Pek, KG and Beli dealing with injuries and Payne is Payne. We could really use him here despite his defensive weaknesses.

Very good call. He won it all last year, so playing time may be key.

Lee is an interesting idea and would be a way to get the inside track on signing him next year, but I am sure he is thinking buyout to make the playoffs again.

Well, I wouldn't mind signing Lee this summer at a modest contract. The problem with signing Lee now over a developmental guy is it might help us now but hurt us in the future. I'd like us to focus on developing our young guys, preserving our draft pick and improving our chances of getting a new coach.

I'd argue it helps the development of Towns, Wiggins and LaVine and that's the ultimate goal. This organization has to do a much better job of surrounding promising young talent with high character veterans that can positively contribute on the floor. Also, adding Lee isn't an anti-tank strategy. He's not going to add many, if any, extra wins on his account, but I think he could still be very useful. I too would be open to bringing him back.

I'd only give Lee a 1 year or 2 year deal and no more. He does have major flaws defensively in his game and isn't any kind of long-term solution so keep the deal short and it'd be fine.
