Just got done watching on league pass, same old BS from Sam. He's one of the worst coaches around and Payne should never see another minute. Payne is so bad in pick and roll defense that its painful to watch. Send him back to the D-League to put up monster stats and hopefully build some value, then take a 2nd or package him in some sort of deal.

He must have been instructed to tank the rest of this year because that's the only reason I can think of why a coach would do that ever at this level.

Sam knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted to send a message to those guys. The problem is he used a sledgehammer over their head instead of a little kick in the ass. I think that's how you lose a team of professionals.

This is the NBA. You don't throw games to teach lessons. Pop on several occasions pulls all his starters if they don't start off well, but he doesn't continue the punishment for the rest of the game to send a message. You still need those guys to win the game so you have to go back to them to close out the game regardless of how they started the game.

Right, I'm not arguing your point. I agree (see bold).

Late to the game thread here, but I was watching the game with another die-hard wolves fan and both of us were screaming at the TV for Sam to bring back the starters from about 8 minutes on in the 4th quarter. At the very least, bring back Towns!

If Sam hasn't lost these players already, which I'm pretty sure he has, last night did it. As others said in this thread, it's one thing to send a message, which I'm fine with, it's another to do something just plain stupid. I mean I understand benching Rubio and Wiggins for extended minutes, but Towns? He was scoring at will, to play him only 22 minutes when he starts the game 10-14 is just mind boggling. I seriously might just have to check out of the rest of this season. If there is any reason I'm still watching right now it's to see Towns play, and then last night happened. Just ridiculous.

Yep. And think about it... Can Sam really "send a message" at this point? The season is done. They are just playing out the string at this point. They've been doing what he's been preaching for the whole year and they are a bottom five team in the league. You want to be a professional. But at the same time, I could see guys tuning him out at this point. Can you imagine being part of that team and listening to Sam yapping at you like he's some sort of coaching genius?

I also doubt we'll see Kevin Garnett return to the court this season. He has no reason to play. Thank goodness we traded a productive player in his prime for him last year so he could play in five games and then re-sign him to play in 38. Outstanding work from the front office.

Coach Sam Mitchell told Sirius XM NBA Radio on Tuesday that Garnett (knee) could be at risk of missing the remainder of the season. "It's a day-to-day, week-to-week thing...I'm not even going to promise that you're going to see him [again this season]." (about 3 days ago)

I agree - except....I could see KG playing in the final home game as some sort of homage to his career. I assume he wouldn't want to end his career sitting on the bench the last couple months. But, if he really is hurting that bad - maybe you are right. IDK.

I'll add another wtf moment on coach but it's not Sam. Why the heck did Kidd not take a timeout and bring at least GF back in the game before the Woles cut the lead to 10? At one point after that it looked like neither basketball organization wanted to win that game.

I think Towns should have come back in other than that I think Bazz deserved to stay in until late when He probably was gassed.

Greg Smith might not be good and neither is Rudez but I'm off the Payne train. I know Sam played Smith more tonight to match up with Monroe but if Smith sticks around I would guess he is gonna get some run the way the Wolves have been pushed around. He isn't afraid to mix it up.

I think Lavine's off ball defense of doubling and digging on double teams or at the rim (and in transition) and reading plays to get into passing lanes has been quite a leap. His want to was pretty big in this game. He really does seem to be putting it together.
