Stop calling him a coward. He wasn't scared of GS if he didn't go there and stayed home. He damn near beat them last year. You aren't a coward just because you leave your team to join the team that beat you. He took a once in a lifetime opportunity with the way the Warriors cap is setup combined with the cap jump to join 3 other great players. That doesn't make the man a coward. This is basketball people. Get over it and stop attacking athletes. That's worse for the game than Durant going to OKC.

Lip, I know Wiggins' family moved to Minneapolis area, or at least I swear I read that. What about Zach and Towns? Towns seems like the ultimate family man and in his vice ride a long he had stated his family was staying in the jersey area. Does that play a part down the road?

oh please save the melodrama, he's a coward in the basketball sense that's it, we aren't wishing death upon him. This would be like Karl Malone joining the 96 Bulls, Durant is absolutely a coward.

Player option for 2nd. Protection against injury/market I guess.

But why not four with an opt out after the first year?

He can still make more money to re-sign a new deal with them next year with the cap jumping another good 10 million.

There is nothing worse for basketball than Durant going to GSW. These guys make 20 mil plus because we watch them and enjoy the game. We can say whatever we feel. Basketball loses its appeal when its not as competitive at the top. Just skip the season/playoffs until the Finals. I was always rooting for OKC, now it's back to supporting the Spurs greatness and backing the Cavs in hopes they can take down Goliath again.

Is there a lesson for the Wolves? Yes, I believe there is. That lesson is to draft and acquire players who, by temperament or personality, will be comfortable in your market/community. That was one of Flip's guiding principles. Fortunately, I think our young core is comprised of guys who will be comfortable staying in Minneapolis and playing for the Wolves provided we remain on an upward trajectory and look like an eventual title contender. Wiggins has already said he wants to stay with the Wolves long term and, as someone raised in Canada, he can't be too troubled by our weather. He's a quieter guy and doesn't seem like someone attracted to glitz and glamour. Zach is just a basketball guy and seems like another player who won't be looking for a bigger or sexier city. KAT seems to like it here as well and seems like a guy whose sole focus will be basketball and winning. These are all solid family-oriented players seem to fit the Twin Cities community. I'll add that Minneapolis is far more cosmopolitan than OKC as well as a number of other NBA cities.

This next season will be key.

I agree with that lesson, but the thing is, Durant IS that guy! He already extended once in OKC. I'd have left that place in 5 minutes and he stayed there for years! :)

To me, I'm not sure there's a lesson because it's just one decision, but this clearly seems like it was a basketball decision, so my conclusion, if there is one, is this--winning attracts people, and having a team culture where everybody gets along attracts people. Let's do both! I feel like we're off to a decent start with team culture.

I don't think coward is at all the right word, but it was absolutely a weak bitch move. Period. It's terrible for the competitive balance of the NBA and sadly I think it's going to keep getting worse with the cap continuing to rise a lot in the future. Stars will be able to take 5-10 mill less and still be making 20-25 mill a season. Who wouldn't do that to form a super team?

You think it's worse for basketball but it's not. The Warriors already destroyed everyone this year and this was one of the greatest regular seasons of all time to be an NBA fan with their chase for both records. Parity isn't good for the NBA. If everyone went .500 which is the ultimate goal of parity it would be the worst sport in the world to watch. The NBA is gonna come out on top at the end of this because everyone is gonna want to watch them every game to see if anyone can beat them.
