Thus given the contracts we're seeing for players of his caliber and less, do you explore his trade market and see what kind of value they may get in return? I have to believe that if Dieng finds himself back in a bench role he'll likely be very interested in finding a new home that could offer a starting position.

If he's going to be too expensive to keep, and unlikely to want to stay, when are they best off trying to get a return on their investment?

I think a signed Dieng is more tradeable than an unsigned Dieng. I do know Dieng seems to like it here and would probably take a little less to stay. I think I read his agent threw out a figure around 15 Mill and today I'd grab it. I'd think we could always get a late lottery pick for Dieng, but frankly I'd rather keep him as a rotational big and he seems kind of like a teamfirst guy that can accept either a starting or bench role for the good of the team.

Ricky, Horford would make a significant impact providing a solid return on investment. With the dollars being what they are, what would the rest on your list do? I'd take Deng if we could get a similar deal to what Big Al got in Indy, but I'm not giving him over 12 million per.

What if Deng agreed to sign here for 2 yrs / 28 mil or 3 years / 42 mil with the third year being a team option?

Okay, but only after I exhausted all avenues with Durant (I know), Horford, and possibly trading for Butler.

I personally believe every single one of those ships have sailed. Durant and Horford were complete long shots before this even began. The Butler trades have already been evaluated and passed. I'm all for signing a Deng or Gasol for 2 years, as that provides us with a quality veteran presence who knows the system, along with productivity on the investment. It also will come off the books at the most opportune time for our franchise when we have to begin looking at extending some of our core in LaVine and Wiggins.

I may be in the minority, but i'd even overpay by a couple million to sign Deng for two seasons. He'd provide a ton in this new system in practices and games. A seamless transition/consistency is necessary for a young upcoming team, and Deng is the best option here.

Sources: Hawks, Nets, T'Wolves, Spurs and Hornets among 8-10 teams to contact free agent Kris Humphries. He'll decide once market clears.

A bidding war for Kris Humphries? Come Again!

Yeah, you make some sense here.

Pass, unless we're talking under 7 million per.

However, let's suppose for a minute we put up 50 wins next season, and all of a sudden we become much more attractive to the upper echelon of FA's. Is that Deng contract going to keep us from being able to add that big piece that could bring a title to Minnesota?

I'm perfectly fine with the Wolves overpaying for the right players on two year contracts, three if it's a team option. I'm against overpaying on a long term contract for bench players.

And that's your daily dose of D'uh, Captain Obvious signing out!

Even if we put up 50 wins, we're not close to being a real contender. I highly doubt a James, Durant, Westbrook, etc. is ever coming to Minnesota. The way the league is set up is to allow these top 5-10 players to continuously sign 2 year deals, and championship hunt. That will be with organizations that have established winning cultures. We are far from there, maybe at least 5-10 years from there.

I don't think you can deny that Deng would have a vast improvement on our win total and our roster progression, and therefore he'd be a great get. I still very well doubt he comes here, but i'd love to have him. Even with Deng, I'd say we are still hunting for .500 next season. And if it is the case that you are correct and we can attract a top free agent, then Deng at 1 year and $14mil is a good trade chip, especially when you consider that he just helped lead a baby team and a black hole of a franchise to 50 wqins. Though if we reach 50 wins i'd say LaVine, Wiggins, or Towns (maybe all) took significant leaps so we probably would not be looking to add a top free agent as we should be more concerned with keeping those soon to be max players together.
