Talk all the shit you want about Ricky, and let your Porkchop meters run through the roof, but at least give him the credit that he deserves. This team is far better with Ricky on the court, as opposed to off of it. Team leader in =/-, RPM, and BPM shows this.

Um, Sam, I'm pretty sure they know how it feels to get their butt kicked by now. They have lost 21 out of 25 games. I mean how do statements like this motivate young players? "Hey young fella, you suck, but I wanted to make sure you felt how bad you sucked tonight. Because I'm Sam Mitchell so trust me, I know better, why else do you think I only wear one earring?" Lol, it's just Rambis part II, the smartest guy in the room always thinking he knows better but never actually smart enough to reflect on his own coaching. I'm over it.

yap, as i said in other thread Sam just throws people under the buss to look better. Guess what, he is the coach he has the responsibility, he looks like the biggest fool of them all. If he hates this job this much just resign and gtfo Sam. What good can come up from our players looking like this on national tv?

Well said, both of you!!!!! I've thought Sam was a bad coach and not very bright for a long time, but I used to say we could do worse and give Rambis as an example. But I'm now convinced they're both pretty much at the same level.

Greatest memories in Wolves message board history:

I remember a discussion about Westbrook vs. Rubio after a close loss early in the season his rookie year. Anybody who chose Westbrook was ripped to shreds that week even though Westbrook went for 28 /6 / 6 and hit the key baskets down the stretch in a close win.

For the record, Rubio had 6 / 5 / 6. Nearly every poster said they'd rather have Rubio over Westbrook moving forward.

I wonder what the results would be if we had poll about it today?

I could see that back in the day. We had never seen anyone like Rubio and PG play was so bad here. I think we thought he would be a better player at this point but his growth has been almost non-existent due to numerous things including injuries and playing for the national team.

Who gives a shit if the team is better with him on the court than off? What's our career record with Ricky? What's the difference between losing by 10 and getting blown out? People have constantly been giving Ricky extra credit for his play compared to his backup. We're better when he's on the court than off. He's one of our better +/- guys. How about we stop comparing him to our backups and start comparing him to his peers which is how it should be. Does anyone here think he's a top 10 PG in the league? Top 15? Top 20? The league is in a golden era for PG's and we're sticking behind a wildly mediocre option watching guard after guard drafted after him in the following years surpass him. At some point this team not getting better is on Ricky not getting better. Ricky is the show runner. The primary ball handler. The floor general. If he doesn't get better, why is this team getting better? Unless you bring in someone to take over his primary ball handling role, this team isn't getting better no matter who you bring in around him because he's still the guy with the ball in his hands the most. He's still the guy running the show. We're stuck here because Ricky never got better so it's perfectly reasonable for people to be ready to move on from him.

He's ranked about 14th in every advanced stat among starting point guards, so I'd say he's in the top 15.
PGs I'd trade Rubio for straight up for right now:
All-Stars:
Curry-Plays with Klay Thompson, Draymond, and a slew of other great role players
Westbrook-Plays with KD and Ibaka
Paul-Plays with Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan and shooters
Irving-Plays with LeBron and KLove and shooters
Lowry-Plays with DeRozan, Carrol, and Valancuinas
Lillard-Played with Aldridge, Batum, and Mathews, and now playing with McCollum
Wall-Plays with Beal and Gortat
Teague-Plays with Korver, Millsap and Horford

Rising:
Reggie Jackson-Drummond
Russell
Walker

There's a couple of fringe guys that I'd consider, but what I'm trying to say is that while it is important for PGs to make their teammates better, I don't think we've given Ricky enough time to show what he can do with these players. Ricky and Wiggs have played 57 games together, 35 for a coach who thinks the best way to utilize the pair is to have Ricky feed Andrew in ISO situations. Ricky and KAT 35, yet nearly every open jumper KAT gets, comes from a perfect Ricky bounce pass off the pick and pop. I'm giving Ricky the benefit of the doubt for another calendar year, when hopefully he'll have half a season under his belt with a competant NBA coach who doesn't run a severely outdated offense.
Ricky is by no means a top 5 point guard in this league and probably never will be, but saying that we've had so many options to get rid of Ricky and upgrade is just completely false and blaming him solely for our struggles is blasphemous

I don't think anybody is putting the blame solely on Rubio, but he should get a fair share. I also doubt that Rubio is the only point guard who can make these "pinpoint" passes to wide open jumpers. Rubio can make some fancy passes yea, but so do other point guards

I remember that type of posts/threads and I will freely admit I was a fan of Rubio over Westbrook early. Westbrook I was worried he was going to be selfish too much and probably the contrast of Rubio being abnormally selfless and Westbrook attacking doing whatever was a significant contrast and mislead me to a certain extent and remember at that time Durant was THE man. Nobody was expecting Westbrook to turn into a top 10 player capable of dominating so many aspects of a game at any given time. On the other hand we didn't know Rubio would struggle so much staying healthy and be such a poor shooter and scorer. I've always liked Westbrook though and he is fun to watch the dude just plays ball. In some ways they have some similarity in that they just play and use their strengths well and people rip them for what they do or their attitude toward the game (Russ attacking everything and Rubio being unselfish to a fault).

Is Rubio part of the solution or part of the problem? I'll take the easy route and say both. We all know and have hashed over his strengths and weakness in multiple posts and threads. It feels like this year may go down as another lost year where we don't know where we can go with him because of how poorly things are going. If he can stay healthy the rest of the year that would help so let's hope for that. Beyond that idk I guess I am hoping he can show he can hit the 3 this year at even 33% it would be good enough although of course I would like to see it be higher.

Let's ask this question when it comes to Rubio. If we traded him to Dallas would you expect that to be a good move for them? I would. Why? Cuban seems to like that sort of PG and Carlisle has won with that type of PG. I am not suggesting Rubio is as good as Kidd was or he is the missing piece for them my point is more that it seems he would fit right in there with a culture, coach and system that would work well. That tells me we need a really good coach not just for Rubio but for all the players. :)
