A Better Benchmark - Wolves @ Pistons GDT

Post by 60WinTim »

I have attended one game at Target Center this year. It was against the Pistons. And until the last game in Cleveland was easily our worst trouncing of the season. It was a terrible, terrible thrashing on the defensive end, and a pretty worthless on the offensive end, too.

So now we get a "do-over" in Detroit. Not sure if I can expect a win, but I absolutely expect a much more competitive game. That's the benchmark I am looking for -- progress against a physical team that absolutely throttled us the last time we played them.

Terrible start by Rubio....Gotta convert that open court layup. Then he proceeds to brick a 3.

Not one of our best starts... Rubio came back down to earth, missing layups and 3s. KAT playing hero ball on the offensive end and being torched by Leuer on the defensive end. And no one who can handle Drummond.

It's amazing how playing halfway decent defense can keep you in games when the shots aren't falling. We couldn't make much of anything and threw the ball away, but we're hanging in there thanks to some OK-ish defense.

The bench, with Tyus, has been very good!

Bazz in an interesting guy and has taken me on a bit of a rollercoaster ride in terms of opinion:

Draft: I was not happy, even if only because the personality rumors were less than stellar.
Rookie: He didn't really show much, nor get much opportunity to show anything.
2nd Year: One of my favorite Wolves, all energy and effort even if generally a overall negative on the floor.
3rd Year: Missed a lot of game injured, thus showed little more beyond what we saw his 2nd season.
4th Year: I was onboard with not extending him as overall I just didn't see the upside. Now here we are over halfway through the season and he's making a strong case for being a core piece going forward, on both ends of the floor!

His bandwagon will pick up a few passengers and drop them just about as fast, over and over again. And the funniest thing is how my initial impression has turned around fully, he seems like a genuinely good guy and teammate! Of course if he resigns and the trend continues I'll lose all interest in him next season.

Agree with you on Bazz!

After the start to this game, gotta feel good about being down just 1 at the half. Too bad we have a 2nd half coming up... ;-)
