-Wolves can apply to have Nikola Pekovic's cap hits -- $12.1M for 2016-17, $11.6M for 2017-18 - excluded from team salary staring today.

-Pekovic salary exclusion would be granted if jointly-selected doctor rules injury career-ending or constitutes medically unacceptable risk.

-If the exclusion is granted, Wolves' 16-17 cap room increases to $24.8M, 17-18 max projected cap room increases to $37.1M (at $103M cap).

-Wolves are currently $3.3M below salary floor. Pekovic's salary will count toward the salary floor whether the exclusion is granted or not.

-If Pekovic doesn't play again, Wolves can be reimbursed $8.7M of his $12.1M salary for 2016-17 and $9.3M of his $11.6M salary for 2017-18.

Here are a couple of my own thoughts. The last I heard from Pek was he said in December he could t run without pain. I can't imagine a scenario where some doctors wouldn't consider him unable to play now and this adversely affecting his future health if he kept playing. A majority of Pek's salary coming off the books seems like pretty much a certainty right now. The Wolves are likely going to have some money to play with this summer if they want to sign some players to contracts.

Not one of Flip's stellar moments as GM. Never understood people bidding against themselves. It is the agents job to have someone else pushing the price up and will Flip doing this before the Love situation was worked out was a major no-no.

As did I. Just didn't ever prove he could stay healthy. Honestly if there was a FA like him out there with a proven health record I would want him here.

The idea they were bidding against nobody isn't accurate. Pek wasn't healthy but if he was or even able to effectively play for 55 games a year his contract would be a bargain or a solid value considering what big guys are getting right now. Regardless the Wolves and Glen Are going to be just fine after basically about the worst case scenario happened so the gamble wasn't the worst I've seen.
