Parker tears his left ACL (sadly again)
Bucks' Jabari Parker out for season after tearing left ACL for second time. This could be an interesting summer for both the Bucks and us. Both Parker and Zach could have extensions worked on.
Parker is averaging 20.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 33.9 minutes per game on 49 percent shooting from the field and 36.5 percent shooting from 3-point land.
While Zach is averaging 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 37.2 minutes per game over 47 appearances, shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from 3-point range.
From those that have had a similar tear and surgery, do you think the past dictates the future?
Gotta suck for Milwaukee. But I'm glad we have Wiggins vs. Parker.

Yeah, that stinks. Milwaukee might be as snake-bitten as our woeful franchise.
I think Zach eventually makes a full recovery, but you do wonder if it knocks a split second off his quickness and explosiveness.
This might sound twisted, but I wonder if this ages Zach a bit and he begins to use his head more than his athleticism. Right now, I believe his biggest problem defensively is the fact he over-reacts to things like pump fakes and change of direction moves. You have to wonder if this eventually keeps him more grounded and solid defensively instead of being all herky-jerky (as I wrote that, I heard Thibs in my head screaming, "Square! Square! Stay solid!")

I think what it does is...
1) Limit the types of moves the Wolves can make this summer.
2) Make his extension a lot more difficult. Remember, it's not like Parker came back the next season like his old self. It takes time. And with a guy like LaVine who already brings questions about his ultimate long-term value... this doesn't help.
[Note: Yes. He's young. But it'll be 4 years... and he'll still have a ton of question marks...]

I actually think it takes some of the extension pressure off a bit for Lavine. He was trending as a possible max extension guy, even though he probably didn't deserve it. Now I feel like we can give him the Shabazz treatment, give him a lower offer probably closer to his true value and see what the market will bear as an RFA.

Personally I think we are in a lot of trouble either way. There are still some question marks about zach but he still averages 19pt per game as a 21 year old. Now we won't be able to evaluate probably to see if he can become more than just a scorer or zach is terrible next year because of the injury and the wolves might be stuck with a guy who had untapped potential for a big contact.
Brooklyn is going to be a pain in the ass for us the next couple of years because they have no assets or picks they need to take chances. Why not offer lavine the max if you are them. You mentioned shabazz and not extending him, well in hindsight it backfired on the wolves he will now make more money and will he be the player we have seen the last 2 months next year when he is no longer in a contact year. Look at Brooklyn again they offered Tyler johnson and Crabbe big money last year and they are solid players but the Nets made them pay and they can and I bet will make us pay for shabazz.
The wolves really don't have assets at all they have the big 3 what I doubt they trade any of them. Gorgui who probably has a little value and rubio who has unknown value. Dunn is the X Factor will he improve or is he like Derrick Williams where we keep him year after year because of potential and his value drops and we get luc Richard (last name I can't spell). The wolves can't trade their pick during a season until 2022 or if we do make the playoffs still can't trade it until 2020.
Lavine injury has really muddied the waters of the wolves

Lavine injury has really muddied the waters of the wolves
It could, but honestly I was never comfortable with the no brainer max contract for Lavine. Now if he gets it with an ACL injury or if he is trending to something we don't want to afford we can trade him. With Bazz I think he and his agent were likely holding out for something closer to what he is going to get in open market.
The reality is both Bazz and Lavine along with their agents will be asking for as much money as possible. It is better not to overpay either way but it is likely worse for us to overpay without being sure of their market value. Brooklyn is less of a problem than us giving max extensions only out of fear of the future. We still have the leverage, if Bazz and Lavine earn big deals I am much happier with that then us just paying because we don't have a choice.

Lavine injury has really muddied the waters of the wolves
The Lavine injury certainly sucks, but I'm all for letting him test the market at this point given the circumstances. If Lavine demands a max or near max deal and another team is willing to offer it coming off an injury then let him walk. Max money can bring great players, if they're not comfortable risking it on Lavine then risk it on someone else. The Woofs may not be a glory team at the moment in terms of bringing in max players they will absolutely be more attractive as the big two of KAT and Wiggins get better and Thibs hopefully adds better supporting players... combined with the rest of the NBA spending their portion of the big cap bump options will also decrease.
Losing Lavine to a max offer will not hurt as much as signing him to a max or near max and his never living up to it, even if in the end he does so elsewhere. Be smart, not desperate.
Edit: After posting that it occurs to me that desperate pretty much describes 90% of the Woofs signings over the past decade, lets not do that anymore... please.

Can someone help me out and tell me what are cap situation would be if wiggins, towns get the max. Bazz about 11 mil, gorgui contact and put in the Rubio contact (the amount I would guess we would recieved in any trade). Just wonder can we make a big splash in free agency assuming someone wants to come here what has never happened

If they don't resign Lavine then yes they'd be able to afford to chase a max level guy without doing any more damage to their cap than signing Lavine to the same or similar deal. To be honest I'm almost thinking this injury is going to make the obvious choice regarding the big three much easier on Thibs.
