I dig Long's mention of Tyus Jones.
After last season, I didn't know if he was gonna make it in the NBA. He was mostly terrible. I think he's carved out a role in this league.
And that's a good thing. Call me a provincial rube, but I dig Tyus Jones.

It's interesting though. Our lack of injuries this year has really only given us a limited view into some of our bench players. How would Bazz look defensively if he was our full-time starting SF for a while? How would Tyus look if he was playing 20 MPG off the bench every night?
Both of these guys have been very effective in the roles they have played this year. But we haven't really tested their limits either. And that's a good thing, as I don't want our first unit guys to be hurt!
Re: Which player improves the most this year
This is a good revisit.
It pretty easy to make a case for Bazz like Q said based on his defense alone. That should be encouraging for a few reasons including if Thibs can get Bazz to play Defense there is hope for a number of other players both on the roster and beyond.
I think different players have had pockets of the season where they have had breakout types of a run of games including Wiggins Lavine Towns and now Bazz. Bazz right now is shooting lights out from the perimeter. If he keeps being able to shoot he 3 at a healthy percentage and keeps playing D plus do the stuff he has done basically his whole career that will be a breakout season for him shoring up 2 of his biggest weaknesses.
I like that Tyus has gotten some love here he deserves it. Speaking of guys that don't really have the minutes to get the award...what about Payne? :)
I'll mention again Rubio's career high shooting percentages for almost everything except 3 point shooting and finishing at the rim which the later is still above his career average. You could say Rubio is playing plenty well (statistically compared to his career numbers) despite not fitting into what Thibs supposedly wants. I think both Rubio and Thibs get credit for adjusting. Rubio is a unique player I think a lot of coaches would take a little while to get things figured out when they have 3 other high usuage scorers available like the young 3. Hopefully a few months from now we can be talking about how Dunn has made some pretty significant strides offensively.

It is interesting how many guys have improved and how this team has no vets like KG of Prince this year to help steer the ship. Not sure how much credit goes to Thibs or players.

That is what was going through my mind. There is no single player having a "breakout" year, yet here we are 5 games ahead of where we were last year (which includes the KG/Prince hot start!). I am inclined to award the most improved to "team play" rather than any one individual. And that is kudos to both Thibs and the players.

Boy, I'm pretty sure that we all expected a better showing than that though, especially you! On balance, I'm still in the "disappointed" camp, although certainly things feel better now than a month ago.
This team still struggles with the same two things that vexed them last year: Defense and 3-point shooting. We're just less bad than before.
