Why in the world would we make a major trade for a 1 year stopgap? Teddy's career isn't over.

We're a championship level team dumbass.

You don't give up major assets for a 1 year stop gap for a title. Why? Because if you don't get that title you just fucked with your ability to keep challenging for titles in the subsequent years. Keep the assets for the run next year. We've got a bunch of good players on rookie deals so our window is well beyond this year.

Who are they going to trade for that's a major trade?

I would try to get AJ McCarron.

McCarron's clearly an upgrade over Hill, because he's younger and more athletic. But he's another below average arm who is primarily a game manager, just what Cincy wants in reserve backing up Dalton. I think it would cost us a lot to get him (or anyone who is an upgrade over Hill) and I'd prefer to keep the assets. We have a nice young roster and a great coaching staff, so I think we have several years to challenge for championships. /it's a damn shame because I think they were in a position to challenge this year, but I think the prudent move now is to stay patient.

That's the attitude that keeps the Lions rebuilding since 1958. When you have a chance to compete for a championship you do it. Maybe all we need is a good game manager (I think AJ can be better than that). We are a run first team anyway with a near elite defense. It would really bother me if they try to move forward with Hill this year. He WILL get hurt sooner than later as well.

There aren't many quarterbacks that are going to be able to come in here, learn the offense in less than 2 weeks and be even an average option early in the year. It's not as simple as bring in player A and it's gonna work. Football is just a different beast when it comes to learning the offense/defense and becoming even an adequate player quickly. That's why there are so few trades especially during the year. Remember the Josh Freeman pickup? Hill will probably start for a few weeks and maybe we pickup a veteran backup who can take over after a few weeks.

It's obviously not a permanent fix but with a new stadium an excited fan base and the most talented team in years It would be nice if it didn't feel like they were phoning in the year by starting a no name rookie or geezer to start the season.

You know Shaun Hill is younger than McCown right? I think its pretty easy to make an argument in favor of Hill but its been a while and McCown is actually a pretty decent athlete.

I like AJ but I'm not positive he is anything more than a backup QB. I would hesitate to give up the 3rd round or higher pick to get him. There are going to be a bunch of bad starters decent backups available to the Vikings for cheap if they want to get a vet and lets be honest the difference between one backup and another often isn't that significant. I think a guy like AJ or Mike Glennon would be better than Sanchez TJ Yates (or give me more hope they can be better) but is that worth the draft pick they would have to give up to get them? Idk I think its obvious they have to add someone else at least for a while till Taylor H. Is healthy again.

Josh freeman...man I don't know if I have ever seen a young QB FALL off a cliff to being bad so quickly. Dude is still only 28. That was a special circumstance this franchise was a part of.

I agree that hill will probably be the guy for now till someone else takes over a few weeks from now whether its another vet or Taylor. It's also possible Hill plays well and gets the job done. He has been plenty effective before both on teams that weren't all that great and for a Detroit team that had plenty of weapons.

Teddy's injury is so disheartening. I wish I could wake up tomorrow and realize it was just a bad dream. As for trades, I wouldn't compromise this team's strengths in other areas or mortgage its future to get a quarterback. I think the franchise and fans have to take the hit this year on the assumption that Teddy comes back strong and helps lead an otherwise strong team to a title in subsequent seasons.

I think Todd Bouman is available.
