With the Vikings demise the Wolves HAVE to make the playoffs

Meh....first off, Teddy isn't very good. Great dude, but as of yet, has shown very little as far as winning games. I hate to see the guy go down, but I honestly think he is replaceable. Yeah Rivers would be awesome, but he is a massive upgrade from Teddy, and like others, I don't expect us to fork over the required draft picks to get that trade done. Not sure who we will get, but I honestly think there are several guys we can acquire that will be every bit the player Teddy would have been.

Teddy has literally only shown winning and not much else. The guy has won 17/28 starts (60% winning percentage) and 6 of those wins came during his rookie year when he was thrown in the fire. He did everything to win the playoff game last year on that final drive before Walsh blew the game. The guy is a cold blooded winner. He's not flashy, but he steps up when it counts to win games. That's been his MO since college. He's not a great QB yet, but he has the cold blooded, calm, surgical mentality you need to win games that a bunch of QB's don't have. I would rather start there and improve in other areas than fling the ball around and fold like a tent when the game is on the line.

Again, meh. I like that he can control the ball, but our win success last season was due to the 5th ranked defense in ppg, not because of Teddy (with a few exceptions). I actually agree that he is a very calm QB under pressure, but I also see a guy that is tough to win with if we have to score 24+ points in a game. This offense had 16 or fewer points in 6 games last year, and ranked 29th in total offense. Again, statistically, he shouldn't be that hard to replace. We shall see.

Teddy's career may start looking very Rubioesque. Looks like we will still be talking about Teddy's potential in year 5 of his career. I agree with the sentiment that the Vikes should do something now, windows are so short in the NFL. The good thing is that they can open again quickly with smart management. Nothing wrong with moving some pieces around to try and get a starter.

I saw a headline from Reusse today that touches upon this... "Vikings can replace the Teddy of the past, not the one of the present" or something close to that.

I think a big part of the Vikings being considered one of the league's better teams was because of the projected improvement from Bridgewater. I think if he came back and replicated last year's season, everybody would be disappointed. But it was supposed to be a year of legit growth and improvement for the kid.

On this site, guys with 5 years of NBA experience at a close to plateaued level still get the benefit of the doubt for being able to improve in Year 6. I think a 3rd year QB in the NFL should have AT LEAST that much leeway in a league where experience at the position is a HUGE part of the job.

But you're right in a way. The Vikings were 11 - 5 last season and made the playoffs with Bridgewater as a short-throwing game manager. They can try to replicate that... I just caution thinking that Bridgewater wasn't expected to be a better player this season... which would make finding a replacement a bit more difficult.

As for trades, I wouldn't compromise this team's strengths in other areas or mortgage its future to get a quarterback. I think the franchise and fans have to take the hit this year on the assumption that Teddy comes back strong and helps lead an otherwise strong team to a title in subsequent seasons.

That's a pretty big assumption Lip. He has a looooooong recovery ahead with no guarantee he will ever have the mobility he had before the injury. Adrian only has a couple years left, this team is built to win right now. Management owes it to the long suffering fan base to do everything they can to win right now. Let's not forget, Teddy has yet to become a top 15 quarterback in the league. This injury further clouds whether that will ever happen. I'm not willing to sacrifice a year in the hope things come together perfectly a couple years down the road.

I can't remember where I read it but someone said the Vikings (Spielman) need to look at bringing in a guy that's some sort of legit-ish option in 2017 as well. It's not a guarantee Teddy will be healthy to start that season. How high of a level of guy do you go after? Idk. It's tough. Taylor could have been the young bridge guy that Siemien is for the Broncos right now if he was healthy. Instead he had a freak dumb thing happen a few weeks ago. Shaun Hill is the last man standing and the Vikings will likely be looking through the backup QB bin for the next Shaun Hill, Matt Cassel level player they can plug in if Hill gets hurt. Will they take a chance on a younger guy that still has some potential like Kap or maybe make a trade for a young backup? There are a lot of options and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet. It's hard enough to find a QB to help you win games when you have months of time to prepare and now they have to do it in hours. It's a tough deal but I do think they have to look for immediate help and also consider something a bit more long term in the equation.

I agree with your take Lipoli. Shit happens, especially in the NFL. Panicking now when we are on the verge of building a perennial contender would just compound the problem. If we had made it to the Super Bowl last season then maybe I'd feel different, but the reality is we were likely another season away anyhow with a still unproven Oline, WR group, and Teddy himself.
