If we landed the #1 (or #2) pick, what would you do?

Post by kurrdog53 [enjin:7013678] »

So this is an unproductive, hypothetical post, but the question remains. What IF we end up with the #1 or #2 pick (can we get #2??) in the draft?

Would you draft Simmons or Ingram and add them to our talent?

or

Would you trade down, get some assets, and draft a player of need? If Philly ends up outside the top 2, would you trade 1 or 2 for Noel and their pick?

Thoughts?

If we get No. 1, there's a 99% chance I'd draft Brandon Ingram. I think he's that good and will get even better.

If we get No. 2, I probably offer it to Utah for Derrick Favors and see what they say. If they decline him being available, I probably just take Ben Simmons and feel good about it.

That's my simple answer. There could be other options depending on who's available that we don't know about, though.

I would draft a rail thin 19 year old like Ingram or Simmons. Oh wait, we already have 10 of those guys on our team.

Assuming Boston wouldn't get 1st or 2nd pick with their lottery pick from Nets, I would offer our top pick for them in exchange for Jae Crowder and that Nets pick (I think it would be in top6 since Nets have currently 3rd worst record).

You realize Simmons is 6'10, 240, right?

Way too big of a gamble for my liking. Crowder's good, but he's not "trade the top pick for him" good. Boston would jump all over that and make us look like fools.

Ingram or Simmons. Favors-No (two year rental), Noel-No, Middleton-No. Middleton and a lottery pick-tempting. Noel and a top 4 pick-tempting.

I think that's a very good offer. He said Crowder and the Nets pick. If we could get Bender, Dunn, Hield or Jaylen Brown with the Nets pick, it would be tough to turn down. Crowder is signed to a very friendly contract for a long time and we could sure use him in our lineup. Plus we would have another top player to develop.

Really? No I didn't know that, he looks much smaller. I would have guessed 210.

I'd be very tempted to trade it for a proven veteran. We've seen the stockpiling assets strategy go south too fast (in Portland) and I think we all recognize that we need to be a playoff team next year if we want to hold this together and start adding additional assets. If we can only get Favors for 2 years, then that's 2 years to get to the playoffs, and get into a position to attract other high quality veterans as needed.

We need some physical players next year to help us get to the next level.

I'd also give up Simmons for Julius Randle in the event the Lakers drop. (I know he's not a proven veteran, but I love his violent play).
