If we landed the #1 (or #2) pick, what would you do?
Re: If we landed the #1 (or #2) pick, what would you do?
I take the best player available and don't look back. They'll have cap space to help shore up the bench so next season this team should be challenging for a playoff spot with the only reason the wouldn't being major injury or poor coaching.
Very good to great players on rookie deals is the only real sustainable path to long term success. Unless of course you get a top 2 pick in a draft where DWill is one of the two best players, then you're screwed.

I love the upside of Ingram and Simmons, but I wonder if we could create a situation where we have too many players who need the ball and will take shots away from each other. This is why I posted the question. Getting someone like Crowder and drafting Hield might be worth looking at. If you added those 2 and a FA to our current team, most of us would like the potential of that. I just think there might be a pretty good deal out there that adds depth to our team. This is where a good POBO and GM will need to make the right decision(s)...hopefully to meet the vision of a new coach ;)

# 1 pick for the fourth year in a row (well sort of) - I'd shit my pants...

If we get No. 2, I probably offer it to Utah for Derrick Favors and see what they say. If they decline him being available, I probably just take Ben Simmons and feel good about it.
That's my simple answer. There could be other options depending on who's available that we don't know about, though.

LOL - I was going to type something similar.
But on the serious side, my 1st preference would be to take the Best Player Available. But I understand the logic of why some would want to make deals and I'm not totally closed to that idea. The biggest concern with that (for me) is I'm not 100% confident in our current leadership to make a favorable deal. I'm just a little scared we might end up with the short end of the stick. It would be a real kick in the nuts if we give up a guy who turns out to be a star and whomever we get in return ends up being "meh". I would be more comfortable taking that risk if we had someone like Jeff Van Gundy doing the deal vs. Milt and Sam.

That's is laughable. You would trade Simmons for Favors?!? There would be a league wide investigation for collusion. I get you may dislike him as a prospect but cmon, then trade what most think to be a transendant talent to another up and coming western conference team is bananas. Sorry duder you need to be committed.

I'm all for shopping that pick for a big name that is a vet if we landed #1 or #2. There are only so many shots that can go around and Ingram especially seems like a guy that needs to score a lot in order to be effective. And I just don't like Ben Simmons.

Huh that is a pretty damn trade. There are serious question marks about Simmons is not the perfect fit for the wolves. Simmons as of now needs the ball to be effective on offense, but so do wiggins and rubio. If we add Simmons we would have 3 non shooters on the floor what would kill spacing (I realize wiggins and rubio are trending up). Simmons is a great talent and I would still take him if no trade offer was given.
Favors is almost the perfect fit, can knock down the mid range game, good defender at both pf and center position. And good rebounder. Just 24.
I understand ricky not wanting to do it because of a possible 2 year rental. But to say the trade is highway robbery is ludicrous

Another hypothetical let's say the wolves don't get a top 2 pick. The Nets come to you and are willing to trade Lopez for the pick what do you do?

Respectfully decline, but thank them for making the phone call. Lopez is already 28, has two years left on his deal at $21M/22M per year, and I don't think he's a great fit even though he's a damn good talent.
