We already have our big 3 and they're all on rookie deals. It's gonna be hard for Milt to fuck it all up. Joe Schmo from rube chat could get the job and do very little and we'd still probably end up with a pretty good team even if it's not a title contender.

2. For being as control freaky as Glenn appears to be, why the Hell did he never force Flip to hire a coach? He never wanted Flip to coach. Why is he all of a sudden possibly forcing his hand with the coach in keeping Mitchell when he never did that to Flip when he didn't like the idea of Flip coaching?

How can Milt screw up? Well, one way would be shopping Ricky for a SG like he did with the Bucks. And he coukd sign more vets like Miller who have no game left. He could take the interim label off Sam and sign him to a multi-year deal as head coach. And of course, continuing his tenure into the summer diminishes the chZnces of hiring a PBO like JVG.

The Rubio for Middleton deal is actually a good one if we land a guy like Dunn in the draft or go after a guy like Conley in free agency. A Middleton/Wiggins/Lavine trio would be very good for years to come. A 24 year old averaging 18-4-4 on 40% 3pt shooting and is interchangeable on the wing would be perfect for this team.

I think people get too much into that Middleton Rubio talk. Let's say they agreed Rubio of Middleton we just have to work out the details. MCW has to go somewhere maybe he ends up here or ends up somewhere else and the trade becomes multi team deal. If you wanted to entertain offers for Rubio you would at least ask for something good to see how serious people are. My guess is Milt never though the Bucks were going to agree to anything he was willing to do for Rubio. He doesn't seem like a guy that's going to go out and make all kinds of deals even if he had the absolute power to do so. He was just doing his homework and all that stuff. AP guy Jon K said Rubio wasn't happy about his name being out there.

Rubio has done a great job doing his best to keep it out of trade talks.

Maybe it's the LaVine pairing or pure coincidence, but his statistical improvement began around the time of the trade talks.

I think it's coincidence. Rubio's taking the same shots defenses have always given him. Don't forget he also played with a pretty dynamic SG in Kevin Martin two years ago (when Kevin Martin was still good).

I think Rubio's improved shooting has to do with having a sustained period of good health, practice, and continuity with Penberthy. Now there is a ceiling on how much he can improve. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back down to earth a bit. But then again, I thought Rubio was a very good PG even before his recent improvement as a shooter. The open 3 is the big thing for me. That's the shot he needs to keep knocking down.

Sure. A willingness and ability to shoot three pointers at near a league average rate would do wonders for the team.

Spacing is good.

Right, willingness is half the battle. Tony Allen can be blatantly ignored in a playoff series because he doesn't even want to think about having to shoot a 3. He is simply zero threat. Rubio has actually shown the willingness to take that shot. The question is are teams willing to give up wide open Rubio 3's in order to get the ball out of Wiggins, LaVine, or KAT's hands? If the Wolves were in a 7-game series right now, teams would actually have to think hard about that strategy.

We'll see if he can sustain it.....

Hitting those shots during the dying days of a lost season is one thing. But hitting them while battling for a playoff spot or playing in the playoffs is another. Hopefully this carries over when the lights get a little brighter.

One last thing about Sid is he hilariously calls Zach "La-vine" he might pronounce things worse than my dad which is pretty bad. Lol

In light of this conversation about what out franchise is doing I figured I would post what another one is doing.

Via Marc Stein

ESPN sources say that the Kings are finalizing a multi-year contract extension with vice president of basketball operations Vlade Divac.

Sources say Sacramento also close to adding a seasoned NBA executive to its front office; David Morway has emerged as the leading candidate.

Yeah, well, the Wolves just operate differently than everyone else... :-(

I suspect the desire to sell is keeping Taylor from doing much with the front office. And at least Flip had already done most of the work on a head coach search. Taylor just has to choose one of those guys on Flip's list!

I just finished listening to the latest "You Betcha Basketball show" with Jon K and Souhan. There was nothing super ground breaking but they made some interesting points. I'll give a summery

They made the point that one difference between Milt and Sam is that there are many experienced head coaches with a legit resume but when it comes to basketball executives...there isn't quite the same wealth of options. Jon said probably the best name would be Danny Ferry but considering how things ended in Atlanta...that's not happening. Basically he said if Glen was going to move on from Milt he might be looking for an up and comer...a lot like Milt. Jon also assumes because it just makes sense that Glen will keep Milt through next season.

They went on and on about Sam being grumpy etc which is fair. Jon really seemed to be concerned about this for Sam which seems obvious but he then said he thought the decision on Sam from Glen is more 50/50 than what people tend to be saying right now. He said that he really wonders if Sam is making enough good relationships to help him out when Glen goes to make the decision. It really did seem like Jon thinks there is a real chance Glen could go another direction even though the status quo is what Glen tends to do. He says Sam is not a cranky old guy so much around the players etc but still felt it's tough to have a coach like Sam that doesn't seem to want to play the media game for a franchise like the Wolves.

They talked about what guys were interesting from the tourney and Jon said he thought Murray and Buddy with their shooting and scoring would be good for the Wolves. He really likes Buddy With his ability to hit shots and therefor open up things for everyone else. He wonders if Buddy is still there for the Wolves because teams may be hoping or not wanting to pass on a Curry type player.

Comparing Hield and Curry is a mistake, in my opinion.

(Not aiming that at anyone. Just a statement.)

I was surprised at Jon's comment that many (not sure who they are) seem to think Glen will keep Sam. That was kind of depressing. But at least he thinks Glen could go a different direction. I would think Milt will have some input as well.

I think thats more than fair at this point. But coming out of college very similar conversations. Curry is a unique brand of obsessive that everyone underestimated. Who knows what Buddy's real fire is, but I think he'll be a solid pro, but the there are few players in history you will be able to compare Curry with.
