Yep. That's essentially the "Bat Signal" for the Country Club. Kevin McHale, or Randy Wittman once he's fired by Wizards will follow that signal home.

Well that's irony, karma, or whatever you want to call it. We beat the Wiz, sealing Wittman's fate, only to wind up being stuck with him once again here in Minnesota!

Milt's dream is to run an NBa franchise Ineould think he would be looking for either a guy that's basically an old guy retired former executive in a consulting role or a young guy that would be his right hand guy not bring in a guy that might steal his job. I'd love to have McHale be a draft consultant to pick a PF in the draft. :)

Is it possible that even Taylor could fuck this up?

Wonder if he's consider a frequent internet message board poster for the job? I mean...we all know any of us would be perfectly qualified for the job.

But status quo on the coaching front is not acceptable. Mitchell only has the "interim" tag. A coaching search will clearly be run. Of course, Mitchell will likely be a candidate.

The question is, will the search be conducted before or after the draft?

If it is before, then Milt will conduct the search (with Taylor meddling, obviously). But if it is after (which I suspect it will), then Milt needs to prove himself in the draft and free agency to earn Taylor's blessing to conduct the coaching search afterwards.

But as others have said Tim, how can GT possibly evaluate Milt right on the heels of the draft and FA signings. Draft picks typically can't be evaluated until years later and FA signings you need to at least play a good chunk of the next season. So it's just dumb to leave that interim tag on Milt. Just give him the job.

If GT had been really serious about things, he would have become the search for a POBO back in January. I'm not sure how someone as stupid on basketball matters as GT can possibly evaluate Milt on players he drafts and signs before they even play.

We already have our big 3 and they're all on rookie deals. It's gonna be hard for Milt to fuck it all up. Joe Schmo from rube chat could get the job and do very little and we'd still probably end up with a pretty good team even if it's not a title contender.

2. For being as control freaky as Glenn appears to be, why the Hell did he never force Flip to hire a coach? He never wanted Flip to coach. Why is he all of a sudden possibly forcing his hand with the coach in keeping Mitchell when he never did that to Flip when he didn't like the idea of Flip coaching?

How can Milt screw up? Well, one way would be shopping Ricky for a SG like he did with the Bucks. And he coukd sign more vets like Miller who have no game left. He could take the interim label off Sam and sign him to a multi-year deal as head coach. And of course, continuing his tenure into the summer diminishes the chZnces of hiring a PBO like JVG.

It would be hard for him to screw it up to become playoff contenders but he could easily screw it up and ruin the flexibility for the ultimate goal.

He could trade future assets to get rid of contacts like pek (like the wes johnson trade).

He can sign bench players to too big of contacts now to fix a problem and ruin cap flexibility going forward.

This is a huge draft this is hopefully the last year the wolves will have the asset of a top 5 ish pick. If we trade it or draft a player it has to work it could be the difference between a 6-8 seed team or a top 4 seed team moving forward.

Finally the head coaching decision could once again be the difference between a good solid young team or a championship contender.

Overall you are right hard for him to screw it up and us hitting rock bottom but he could put a cap on the ceiling of this team.

Not saying milt will do anything I mentioned above but it is a legit concern

I wouldn't mind some context in regards to the Rubio situation. For all we know, Milwaukee asked about him and Milt said discussions start with Middleton, not that it was an offer. If it was an offer, it was a mistake for sure.

Listening to the Hartman and his dad talking to Glen here are a couple thoughts

1. Sid does a great job of making Glen sound like a young intelligent young guy. Lol in all seriousness though Glen answered all questions well and seemed like he knew what he was talking about. There was a funny moment when Cahd asked Glen to give his employee a job evaluation and Glen said Sid should be more outspoken and less shy and that he would be better with more experience. Sid said "Say hi to Becky for me!" And Chad said "That's probably not good for your job evaluation to be talking about his wife."

2. Basically when talking about the team he said what we all know is that the starting 5 has been terrific and the bench needs help.

3. On KG it's the same old thing everyone else has said KG said he wants to play but his knees are a problem or whatever. He said KG thinks this team can be a playoff team next year and wants to be a part of that. I won't be shocked if we see him as an expensive mentor next year. I'd saw I'm 50/50 right now on him retiring/coming back.

4. Chad Hartman seems pretty balanced but maybe that's because he is sitting next to his dad and nearly anyone sounds sane next to Sid. Lol

5. On the ownership change Hlen basically said it was time for a time out on anything to do with ownership. He did say he maybe have a couple new limited partners but they wouldn't be anything remotely significant. Basically he just through that in for full disclosure more than any type of news. He said it may take a couple years for Kaplan to get things resolved with Memphis. He said he feels it's his duty to at some point keep looking at a way to take care of the franchise beyond him.

This seems like a sort of media thread and I also listened to a WCCO spot with Zgoda from yesterday. He didn't say anything too significant but one thing he said made me think.

"The Wolves would have an opportunity to bring in an elite coach and coaches would be calling to get the job" I paraphrased there but it's nothing new fans media members have been saying the same thing for months including yours truly.

To me the question is who are these "elite coaches"?

Ok sure Thibs some people will say he is some wouldn't.

I supposed some would say JVG. I guess but the dude hasn't coached for how long? In May it will be 9 years. If JVG is really an elite coach he would have worked sometime in the last year coaching a team and I say that as a guy that likes JVG.

D'Antoni might be considered some level of elite but the dude is well into his mid 60's I don't see him being a viable option for a young team like this plus while I respect what he has done in the league I am not a fan of him as a coach overall.

Zgoda commented after the above quote that Thibs and Scottie Brooks were possibilities. The point I am making is that other than Thibs (and some people wouldn't put him there) there isn't an elite coach out there. Hell McHale probably has one of the best resumes of guys available if he didn't have the history he does with the franchise I would actually be really interested in him with this group of players. So what I am saying is that group of coaches available are good coaches guy that have guided some legit talent to playoffs and beyond. Are there guys better than Sam? Sure but are any of these guys really THE guy and a no brainier type that we should be dying to get this summer? I'm not so sure. I suppose I have more confidence in Sam being adequate till THE guy comes in than pretty much everyone else here. I also certainly won't mind if we move on and hire someone else. I guess what I want to say is I won't mind if Sam sticks around for another year because I think he may be ok doing the job and I continue to not be blown away with the coaching options with Thibs wanting full control.
