- He spent far too long talking about some throwback story of his life that involved Kenny Smith and Ed Pinckney while the actual game was going on. I'm okay with some stories, but make them short and to the point. Sounded like he was rambling and having a conversation that could have been shared off the air.

- He has a super duper man crush on Gorgui Dieng. Early in the game, Dieng took a defensive rebound and went coast to coast and finished over Collison and Curry. It wasn't all that impressive from an offensive standpoint, but rather terrible defense from the Kings backcourt. He then continued to say Dieng should be in the Skills Challenge next year and give Towns a run for his money, which I found to be laughable. G's too damn clumsy for any of that. I've watched that guy fall on his ass because of air being too heavy. The Petersen/Dieng love affair just gets annoying after time.

I actually like Jim Pete. Regarding "Bazz needing love", I interpreted that as coming from the coaching (softer touch from Sam vs. hard ass Sam). Bazz is valuable as an energy/scorer. He obviously has his flaws too. Still. It's pretty obvious he belongs in the NBA and is probably going to have a decent career as a role player.

Regarding Dieng, I have no problem with handing him some praise. Dieng gets overlooked a lot. Yet at the of the game he's putting up another 18 pts/13 rebounds and was +18. I have a hunch that if Pete was gushing on Bjelica or Towns, that would be okay with you.... Just saying we're all fans and have our favorite players for whatever reasons.

It's great when we can criticize the announcers after a win. Things are looking up.

I like both Petersen and Benz, but they both have their faults and I think it's perfectly fine to talk about them just like we talk about the players on the court.

Bazz gets rightfully criticized for the things he does poorly: tunnel vision offensively, not making the simple pass offensively, losing his man defensively, poor rotations defensively, not getting back in transition. All of those are legitimate downsides to his game and those are usually what people talk bad about him for. He's very much a one-way player right now, which to me does not make him "very, very, very" valuable like Petersen says and I do get annoyed when people say things that aren't true or at least semi-true.

I wouldn't expect you to have any problem with the Dieng hyping since you do so much of it yourself. He's one of your favorite players to talk about on the board, and that's your prerogative. Dieng's solid, even more solid off the bench, and I think he's valued fairly here and pretty much everywhere that discusses the Wolves. He's a starter on a bad team, probably a pretty good bench big on a winning team. That's my opinion on him and I don't see how that's unjust. As for the game overall tonight, he played well -- really well. I've never been opposed to giving credit where credit is due. I'm also not afraid to bring up how awful he played against Golden State, which forced him to the bench because he simply couldn't match up. I consider my takes realistic, but as is the case with sports, a lot of things are just opinion.

The bigger point to my post was how Petersen took one regular play and made it seem like it was some freak-of-nature play for a big. I think Gorgui took two strong hand dribbles and then two-hand dunked all while doing this against two less-than-stellar point guards. It was a play that worked, and I'm glad it did, but does anybody really think Dieng has ball skills that are out of this world and deserving of a Skills Challenge nominee (along with Towns, Cousins, Davis, Green)? I doubt it. Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.

These are the sorts of games that have bit us in the ass too often this season. I think I need two hands to count all of the impressive wins we've had over really good teams, but I need two hands and both feet to count all the total crap let downs, especially at home. So I'll take the win, even if it's over a team that is tanking.

This is where Mitchell's no-nonsense hard ass persona comes in handy. They talked on the broadcast about having a 90-minute prep session for this game and he discussed finishing the season strong so that no bad habits would be carried over into training camp next year. It's about freakin' time this team finished a season strong. Abe and others have documented our disgraceful records in the final third of the season over the past number of years. That bad habit needed to stop.

I make no secret of the fact I like Dieng's game. But he hyped the Dieng play because you don't see a 7 footer take the ball coast to coast for a slam very often. The Skill Challenge comment was clearly a semi- joke. We know Dieng isn't going to be entered. The point he was making (as well as the point I make often) is that he's generally under appreciated. As a Starter this year he's averaging 12.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and has a 18.9 PER. It doesn't matter what your opinion is (or mine). Those are damn solid numbers.

The Wolves seem to be averting the end-of-season disasters that they've had in the past. They're actually winning games.

Good to see bench guys play their 2nd straight good game to help swing the game. T. Jones has held his own for two straight games. Bjelica sure seems like he's gaining confidence. We can only hope that carries over and he can build on it next year.

But there's been one takeaway from the past two games and I guess we have to put it in the "good" category even though it's for something "bad."

Rubio has struggled mightily lately offensively... after that stretch of solid to good to very good performances.

1 - 6 fg combined over the past 2 games for 4 points and 9 TOs. Over the past 5 games... 6 ppg / 6 ast / 22% fg... but the team won back-to-back games with Rubio struggling mightily. That could be a sign of growth for some of the young guys moving forward. Maybe they're learning not to rely so heavily on the one guy manning the point.

Agreed. It sucks that he has reverted after such a lengthy stretch of strong play and better shooting. But as a Rubio cheerleader, I also realize it's not a good thing if he's your best player. His game is built to be a strong complement to high-usage stars. In addition, Tyus is starting to show some sparks of effectiveness. Backup PG has been an issue every year of the "Rubio era". It wil be interesting to see how much faith the organization puts into Tyus if Kris Dunn is staring them in the face when we draft #5 or #6.

Pete did also backtrack on his initial excitement saying how bad the defense was on that play and some other comment that indicated to me that he wasn't really serious about Dieng being in the skills competition. Let's be real about Dieng he has come along terrifically in just about every facet of the game. I don't have a problem with your take he could be a bench guy not a starter. Maybe he becomes our Nick Collison who has been an incredibly valuable player for the Thunder for many years. Dieng may have a higher ceiling than that but I am a very big fan of Collison.
