Starting SG

Post by khans2k5 [enjin:6608728] »

Twitter has blown up around the Wolves. First tweet was Mitchell telling 2 writers Lavine will start. Then came everyone suggesting Martin will probably be traded now. I wouldn't even know who to trade Martin for because we'd need a SG back in the trade who could play a lot behind Zach. The only one that would make sense to me would be to Memphis for Lee giving us a plus defender on the perimeter for the second unit while maintaining good 3pt shooting. Otherwise who else would even be worth getting back?

Shabazz and Wiggins can play SG. Brown could too. Rudex and Bejlica can log minutes at SF.

I would certainly hold out for fair value for him. We should be able to get a young player or top 20 pick for him.

Nothing about Bazz's game makes him a 2. He can't create offense off the dribble. He's not anything special beyond the arc. His offense comes out of the post. He doesn't have the athleticism or the skill to guard 2's at all. He's just not a 2. He's a 4 in a 3's body. Wiggins is a better option at the 2, but he's still not great off the dribble yet. He doesn't make many plays for his teammates either. They're both best off at the 3 so while we can probably get away with Wiggins at the 2 I still think it would be best to get a legitimate 2 guard back for Martin.

Ahhh. We've finally got some real story lines coming out! Should make for some good speculation!

oh goodie, so were dumping Martin for a second rounder and we can spin it off as "doing good by an agent" "giving a vet a chance to win" or "Martin isn't worth anything anyway"

I would be open to trading Martin. But similar to Alex, I wouldn't want to see a trade just to dump someone. It has to make sense. Martin can play. He has value and is reasonably priced. Will be interesting to watch this unfold. The good news is that LaVine is looking good early and we have some other options at SG. But make no mistake, Martin was a pure scorer and an excellent free throw shooter which comes in handy to close out games.

The GREAT news is that Lavine is EARNING the spot. That is tremendous for the future of this organization.
