Gobert's value became evident in the last part of the season and there is no way the per 36 factors in what a force he was on defense. Gobert should be an allstar this year. I don't even look at McCallum because Gobert alone is easily more valuable than Shabazz and Dieng, but McCallum's stats are looking to take a huge leap this year due to his starting role. Dieng's stats might take a hit because of Karl Towns and I expect Bazz to be about the same as last year.

You're a lot higher on Gobert than I am. I'll be surprised if Gobert is ever an all-star, much less this year. His offensive game is pretty much limited to dunks, and his 69% free throw rate makes him a liability late in games. He will give you a couple blocks a game, but that's not enough to make you an all-star. I admit I didn't watch him much last season, but I did see him in a few FIBA games this summer and was underwhelmed by his defense. He is extraordinarily long and opponents have to take that into account, but he also seemed to not have the lower body strength to battle heavier opponents (much like Dieng). I don't know if you watched the France/Spain game, but he was completely owned by Pau Gasol...I think Pau lit him up for 40 and frustrated him all night.

Maybe he was hurt against Pau because he hasn't been very impressive in his first 3 pre-season games either...averaging just 6 PPG and less than a block a game. I'm going to try to watch him a little more closely this year to see what I'm missing. I'm curious to see how he and Towns do against each other, but we have to wait until December 30 for that.

I watched almost every Gobert game after the break and he's incredible. He's like Ben Wallace on defense and Ben Wallace was a top 10 player because of his defense, even though his offensive stats sucked. I can't think of another center who was as good as Gobert after the break last year.

Check this article. Gobert is projected to be best center in the NBA this season. http://www.nba.com/magic/gallery/cohen-8ball-projecting-best-nba-centers-2015-16

Before the break Utah was struggling with a 19-34 record. After the break, Gobert enters the starting lineup and Utah goes 19-10. Big difference. Gobert's only been in the league 2 years, with less than a half a season as a starter. He's arguably one of the best centers in the game now and he could certainly improve especially on the offensive end.

Can I pick Gobert and Bazz? Dieng is the player that throws a wrench into this for me.

69% isn't a liability at the end of games. Nobody hack-a-Shaq's an almost 70% free throw shooter. They hack-a-Shaq sub 60% guys. Gobert will be a DPOY at some point in his career which is more valuable than Bazz or Dieng will ever be.

In general our two biggest weaknesses are 3pt shooting and paint protection so with that in mind I take Rudy and CJ in a landslide victory. What does the other team do if we went big with Towns at the 4 and Rudy at the 5? They'd shoot under 30% at the rim.

Gobert's arguably the best player in that entire 2014 draft class. Yes, I wish we had him. No, I don't fault Flip for not taking the long, skinny kid from France. McCollum's still a nobody to me right now, but it doesn't factor in my vote. I thought Rudy absolutely deserved DPOY last year.

I am curious about the other side of the coin. Is Kanter really as bad of a defender as I have heard he is? It sounds like he can't guard a rolling office chair.

Through 3 quarters tonight in the Portland/Utah game:

CJ McCollum: 3 for 17 with 5 TOs

Rudy Gobert: 1 point, 6 rebounds, 1 block (presumably against CJ)

Don't worry, I'm not going to update this thread every night. But 3 for 17 is just too good to pass up :) !
