Maybe a little. I also miss Craig Smith when I see Payne playing PF for us.
Really? I don't get that one.
Although Jeff Adrien could have been a more defensive minded Craig Smith... who was a more offensive minded Gary Trent?
Wayne Ellington was NBA player that went on to play other places. Lets call him a legitimate NBA bench player. (thinking 10-15th man on the roster - not a rotation player like he was here)

To be fair, he's played more minutes per game the past two seasons than he ever did in Minnesota.
In fact, he's been around for 7 seasons. He started 13 total games over 3 seasons in Minnesota. He's started at least 21 games in every other season except one.
It should be noted that Ellington has played for some lousy teams:
15 - 57
17 - 65
26 - 40
24 - 58
21 - 61
15 - 41
Although he even found himself in the rotation for a decent Memphis squad... but then they dumped him on to the Cavs where he got even more time... because they sucked.
I don't see how we have room for a guard right now. A big makes more sense.
Ellington is a decent bench player and there is a couple reasons he sticks in the league.
#1 he can hit 3's and I believe now he is less streaky while doing it.
#2 when he is out there he won't hurt you because he plays within himself plays smart rarely turns the ball over. I don't care enough to look up stats but my guess is he doesn't suck too bad at defense not an asset there but not a huge liability either.
It doesn't hurt that Ellington has decent size and pretty good athletic ability for what he can bring on the floor.
Also I miss watching Craig Smith offensively. He was a fun player to see with his scoring in the paint Tony Parker guard like game in the physical package of a guy with a nickname Rhino. He might have been just a bench scorer on a good team but he was fun as heck to watch score in guys and frustrate them.
