Wolves trade deadline aftermath
Re: Wolves trade deadline aftermath
Thanks for posting the link to the Milt interview. I was impressed by Milt. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Interesting to hear him say he wants to see this team get out and run more, taking advantage of its athleticism. Also interesting to hear him say he want Tyus to play more. Milt was very close to Flip and we all remember Flip saying last summer before he passed that Zach is a SG.
Putting it all together, I suspect that Sam Mitchell would not be Milt's first choice for head coach going forward if Milt is in charge. Sam's stubborn use of a slow, plodding half-court style, his insistence that LaVine has to be a PG and his failure to give PT to Tyus are all at odds with what Milt appears to believe.

Multiple people tell me Bucks made several runs at Rubio. Each time Milt Newton asked for Khris Middleton. No deal.]
Interesting that Middleton is who Milt wanted. I get the idea there.
It would be interesting to hear what else was in the deal where Middleton became the hard stance. Hard to imagine it was much more than poo-poo if Middleton is the guy they refuse to give up.
Re: Wolves trade deadline aftermath
Martin also has some value for the Wolves should Bazz, Zach or Wiggins go out with an injury. I am impressed Sam gave up on trying to give everyone minutes.
[Edit: although, not impressed enough to think he should be our coach beyond this year! ]

If true, I'm even more impressed by Milt. The Bucks are struggling this season and have clearly failed to build on last season's success. They also play in a market like ours where they need to generate excitement. So I can see why they'd want to shake things up a bit and get a guy like Rubio. But if they weren't willing to part with Middleton to get Ricky, then Milt would have been justified giving them his middle finger.
Organizations around the League need to get over the idea that they can use the Wolves organization for bargain shopping. McHale and Kahn helped create a reputation around the League that the Wolves were easy fodder for one-sided deals. Thankfully, Flip worked to change that image and it's critical that management continue to eviscerate that image going forward. Kudos to Milt for continuing what Flip started.

Rubio/LaVine/Wiggins/Dieng/Towns with Tyus/Shabazz/Belly or Payne.
I wonder if there is anything we do buyouts of Miller and Prince and bring in some d-leaguers to look at.
Any D-Leaguers do you have in mind? http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/2016/01/07/this-former-umass-basketball-player-tearing-the-nba-league/EblSOI8TQgfKuKZdMx7l6O/story.htmlRaphiael Putney might be the most interesting. Brandon Ashley is a potential 3 and D guy. Other guys available with decent stats include: Jimmer, Vander Blue, Vincent Hunter, DeAndre Liggins, Josh Magette, David Stockton (John's son)

I campaigned that the time to trade him was last year, saying his value was only going to drop. Most posters thought I was crazy, with the large sentiment being that his game was not going to age and that we just as easily trade him this year.
Yeah right.
IMO you don't need to dig it up I remember it well enough. Lol It kinda sucks to be right sometimes. It will be interesting if Martin is willing to go the route of buyout. It sounds like there will be some fairly worthwhile players on the market soon.
Not only last deadline, but in the offseason. It made zero sense to keep him when you are clearly rebuilding. I chalk that up to Flip the coach making the decisions over Flip the GM. I think we could have gotten a good asset in return for Martin last deadline.

Are you serious cam?? Gallo is the man in denver! Kevin Martin will never land us a player like Gallo or a player similar to him. The trade deadline is over and so should the wishful thinking of us landing a rotation guy with martin and payne as trade chips.
Martin has zero to negative value. No one will want his 7m salary next season and he will not opt out of it. Most likely case is no one will offer him similar money and he knows it.
The most we can get out of martin is what we got from budinger and the most likely scenario is a buyout.

Perhaps I should have really spelled it out for you... I thought what I was saying was clear. Apparently not.
Maybe we can use Martin's contract in an effort to match salaries with a team this summer. For example, a deal with the Nuggets for Gallo only would mean we need to send out roughly $10M in contracts. Martin, Payne and Rudez (non-guaranteed next year) would work. I SAID AROUND DRAFT TIME, WHICH SHOULD HAVE HINTED TO USING OUR TOP-10 PICK IN WHATEVER TRADE. No shit Martin alone isn't getting us Gallo. I never said that. I said his contract could help, which it could.
Do better, worldK.
Re: Wolves trade deadline aftermath
You can do better as well cam with your trade proposals. Fact is Martin will not bring us anything of value no matter how hard you try to come up with something.
Re: Wolves trade deadline aftermath
Cam's right.
If and when K Mart opts in on his player option for next season it gives us a handy expiring contract.
