Wiggins is the opposite to me and continues to blow my mind with his athleticism and improvement so far. Thompson is better than Love but honestly he can stay out in California. The guy seems like a douchebag.
Anything specific? I just haven't seen that written about Thompson often, so I'm just curious if there's something more than meets the eye with him.
Mostly his penchant for "dating" internet celebrities and then having public social media spats with them. It is understandable given the fame and all that. But his choice in females make me question if there is much substance there. I get the sense that the reason he was really devastated about the Minny trade rumors was the diminished access to booty calls.
Oh. Yeah, I don't know much about his dating life. But if he's like most pro athletes... I wouldn't be surprised if (1) he's highly arrogant and (2) with much substance outside the relevancy of his place in his profession. It's not these guys are delving deep into other issues. They have and will spend an inordinate amount of time on their craft.
Yeah I agree that is the reality, and we probably shouldn't expect much more than their behavior on the court and as teammates. On the flip side, so far we seem pretty spoiled with Towns and Wiggins (even Lavine with the Charity stuff this year) in terms of wholesome personalities. You never know how fame will affect the guys but Towns seems insanely together. He wants to go back to medical school after basketball. Awesome.
To be fair, I chuckle when I see that stuff. It's a nice sound bite, but so far removed from reality that it comes off as disingenuous at times...
I do dig what we see from Towns in interviews. I have no idea about the off-courts endeavors/antics of any of these guys.
As for Thompson, the guy seems pretty calm and down-to-earth (relatively speaking) in interviews. Was the dating stuff just from the chick or was he on it with a bunch of name-calling types of responses? Just checked him on Twitter. It seems very tame and he's not very active (it even includes a Flip tribute). Have you seen some of the stuff other players put out there?
It is unrealistic, but only because he is going to be a superstar.
My read on Thompson was more that if you as an NBA are making an "instagram model" your public gf, you are an idiot and it deserves to go sour. These guys should be able to do better. Other players are worse, but Thompson was a mark, which is pathetic.

Wait. Is he a mark... or a douchebag? Seems like a big difference between the two?
Was he promoting his relationship with the chick at every turn? If so... I can see how he could be both. If all the promotion was coming from the woman, I'm just not getting the douchebag angle.
[Note: As for the medical school stuff... it's unrealistic for many reasons... including that he's going to make tens upon tens (hundreds!) of millions of dollars. But even if he had a modest NBA career and was out of the NBA at 24 years old with $25M at his disposal... do you expect him to go back to get his undergraduate for 3+ years? Then, four years of extensive studying in medical school... then another 3 - 8 years in a residency program? At the most optimistic, he's looking at becoming a doctor at the age of 35... while spending so much time and effort getting there... he wouldn't be able to enjoy that $25M in the bank much.]

Abe I agree it's a nice sound its sort of a nice sound bite. By the time he gets done playing who knows what he will want to do.
As for whether he would want to do it and it being realistic...Towns will probably have his undergraduate degree done sometime in his 20's. If he really wants do do the medical thing...well he has all the money he can do whatever the heck he wants. I could be wrong but doesn't he want to do a doctorate in Physical Therapy? That's not quite as much schooling and time as full blown medical school. Maybe he will revolutionize things like Arnie Kander did and be a HOF trainer in addition to his basketball career. :)

Klay was promoting it until it turned south. I don't think there is a difference in this case. If you are not choosing people of substance to be close to you, then I would say you're a mark and a dbag. But semantics really. He is not here and I am happy about it. Although if he was here I would be defending him vigorously ;)
Reasoning being that was what got us KAT. If they signed Love or traded for Thompson KAT would likely be playing elsewhere as those two would likely have added a few wins two years ago.
That summarizes my position. Klay Thompson is by far the best player of the three right now...a true 2-way superstar...so I had to give some consideration to the Klay/Wig/Love option. But I went with Wig/Klay/Love for 2 reasons:
1) As SP says, Klay and Lee would have led the Wolves to enough wins that there would have been little chance of getting the first pick in last year's draft...in fact we likely would have been late lottery at best.
2) While Klay is a much better player than Wig right now, their stats in their respective second years were actually quite comparable. It's not too much of a stretch to say Wig could end up as good as Klay, if not even better.
I went wigg, Thompson then love. I think at this moment wigg is the worst of the 3 but we were max out on where love could bring us and I don't think the Thompson trade was ever on the table

But I would pose a simpler question: Without changing any other aspect of our current roster, who would you rather have today: Wiggins, Love, or Klay?
This is pretty much how I came to my answer/vote of Love, Wiggins, Thompson. I would have traded Love for Lou Amundson if it meant getting Towns in the following draft. But if all things are the same, I'll take one Kevin Love, please and thank you. 26 PPG, 12 RPG, and 4 APG doesn't grow on trees. Think he and Towns would be an insanely great combo. Not sure there's ever been a 4/5 duo that can space the floor like they'd be able to, and Towns' rim protection and ability to defend in space is exactly the kind of center we needed when Love was still here.

Yeah, people tend to forget what a great season he had when he was "the guy". He and Pek did not make a great pair in terms of defense (not to mention gambling Corey and matador Martin on the wings), but he would certainly help with this current squad's rebounding woes and give it another outside shooter and post threat.
I am personally torn on which of the three I would go with because a strong case could be made for all of them.
Edit: Here is another little factoid from that Kevin Love 13-14 squad: They were ranked 12th in defensive rating. So Pek-Love-Brewer-Martin-Rubio was >>>>> than Towns-Dieng-Wiggins-LaVine-Rubio on defense. Obviously that squad had a ceiling defensively and it was about as good as it was going to get, but it should put things into perspective. Perhaps Love isn't ridiculously bad at defense and perhaps our current group has a loooooooong ways to go still.
Klay might be the best all around player and Love would be a terrific fit on this team but I'm going homer and taking Wiggins.
Highlight of Wiggins against GS showing what he could be down the road nearly every night.

Wiggins is a 20ppg scorer and he is 21. He is plenty efficient because he gets to the line at a higher rate than Klay. Drawing fouls can be huge. Also all the talk about Wiggins rebounding it's not like Klay is ripping them down at a high rate. Maybe Wiggins never gets to Klay's level of all around game but I think we sometimes expect too much from Wiggins too quickly. I'm guilty too but he has been in the league 2 years and already accomplished quite a bit and there is plenty of upside left.
