How will rule change affect the draft

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

College players can announce for the draft and test the waters up to ten days prior to the draft. In the past they had to decide 2 1/2 months before the draft. Calipari announced all the players would declare for the draft. There should be many more players going thru the combine, workouts and gauging interest by teams. I am not sure how this will affect the draft pool-more, less or about the same. I imagine there will be many more teams making promises to players that they will take them if they come out and are available at their draft spot. It might make mock drafts a little more of a guesswork. What do you guys think of this change?

Since the NBA/NCAA allows a BASKETBALL (but not Football for some reason) player to return to college play if they don't hire an agent, I don't think it will have much effect.

The only possible effect will be guys who believe the BS from GS, SA, OKC, CLE, TOR, and LAC (or whomever holds those picks) that they will be a "bottom of the first" guy, when in fact they end up lasting until the second round. Now I understand that some of the people who hold disdain for second round picks will now turn around and post a "glass half full" comment about how great it is to play for a bad team because they will get lots of chances, just so they can disagree with me (or more likely, just so they can disagree with someone, anyone), but let's be honest: 2 years at $1m per is better than three years at $500k or playing overseas.

Here's an article on this topic: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/how-the-ncaa-s-new-draft-rules-change-the-game-163756109.html

I think second rounders become more valuable.
