Play GM for the Wolves.

Post by Hicks123 [enjin:6700838] »

I think the Wolves are at a point where what they have is not good enough, but we are also short on assets to get "good" value in return. My thoughts now are that have 2 distinctly different avenues to explore as we move forward this year:

1) Stand pat and hope that the Wolves reserves somehow hit their stride, also adding Bud and Turiaf, thus making a playoff appearance possible.

2) Upgrade the bench via trades involving guys that are overpaid. Thinking guys like Thornton, Thompson, Marv Williams, C. Lee, Bass, G. Davis, Delfino etc. (certainly not a complete list of players)

I simply don't think that the Wolves have any assets to pull off a mutually beneficial trade, thus I believe that somehow they will need to facilitate a trade where they take on substantially more years/money in a deal.

What would you do?

I am at the point where I would lean in and take a chance on some of the guys mentioned. While a guy like Thornton is not ideal, he would be a massive upgrade on Shved, and someone I would be OK with being on the court for 20 min/gm. Similar for the others. Not sure we have any choice.

I think the Celtics would do JJ for Lee. They would have one less year of contract to worry about.

Maybe offer Shabazz and JJ for Lee and Crawford.

Solution: actually play Shabazz and Dieng more in a PnR offense that will at least allow for more movement towards the basket and see if it works. If they produce, great. Now you dont have to make a trade at all. Try it now while what's currently being tried isn't working.

I agree. Although that is more of a coaching decision than a GM decision.

I'd go with #1. We have had a tough schedule and a bunch of back to backs. That still doesn't excuse some of the weak losses to teams like Cleveland, Washington, etc., but there have been games where we blew people out of the building and were able to sit our starters for the entire 4th quarter. Our margin of victory and strength of schedule exceeds a number of the teams ahead of us.

I think we need to be patient for now. We are definitely in a funk, but that doesn't mean we stay there.

Agree with The Wolf and The Doper. More PT for Dieng and Bazz. With Adelman's current strategy, we're a below .500 team and we obviously can't continue with our starters at 40 minutes a game. I think Flip has done well this off-season. Adelman's not doing a great job this year.

How crazy (sorry, couldn't resist) would we be to give this guy a shot? I feel like Adelman probably wouldn't have the patience to deal with him, but on a minimum contract (he's basically a free agent at this point, right?) he's a low risk, high reward type of guy. Right? Right?

I went to ISU when Royce played there. The guy is a moron with a complete false sense of reality. No way!

I'll also add that Adelman doesn't like babysitting, so it wouldn't work.

White wasn't even a sure thing on the court, even if he wasn't a petulant child off it.

Did anybody see his D-League stats last season? I might find them later and post them.

Not good. Not good at all...
